The Fighting TTLGers present: Arma 3 (a TTLG Coop Saturdays spin-off) - by Thirith

Yeah, not one of the best sessions today. I don't know if it's a recent update to one of the mods, but today was pretty brutal and meatgrindery and we spent a lot of time unconscious and then dead. Hoping that this is something that can be tweaked - here's hoping... Anyway, thanks to Dema, henke and Malf - even when the game doesn't play nice, it's still enjoyable to hang out with the gang.

I'll want to look at the settings we're using, in particular for the medical system, before our next game, so the next session will only be in three weeks time.

Fun session today, at least mostly, thanks to demagogue, henke, Jeshibu and Malf. The first mission, a run of Dynamic Recon Ops in Zargabad, started well, but then, moments after the Humvee that Jesh was in blew up due to an enemy RPG, my server PC decided it was time to lose wifi connection... so I had to reboot the computer and we didn't finish the mission. We followed up with a short hostage rescue on the Rosche map (picturesque German countryside, lush forests, flat as a pancake). As is so often the case with
Arma and foliage, the AI saw us much better than we saw them, though it wasn't as bad as it could've been, since we kept the enemy reasonably suppressed. We still briefly lost henke when the jeep he was in exploded, but we found the hostage, rescued him and extracted. Well, after a bit of a delay, since the sole surviving AI soldier decided he'd just sit in a bush and only came to the extract position with us after Jesh incentivised him with a bullet to the head.
Anyway, one more
Arma game in 2021!

Yesterday's Arma session didn't happen, since we were just three people, so we played some Minecraft instead and I got lost in the woods.
The TTLG Arma sessions will return, but only in 2022. More info to follow soonish. Till then!

Arma is returning for 2022, though I'm aiming at a three-weekly rhythm. Might give us time in between to play other games, plus it looks like there might be more Saturday afternoons where I've got something on. Anyway, here are the details:

Well, since it was just the O.G. quartet of myself, henke, Jeshibu and Malf, we played some Back 4 Blood instead - and came to the conclusion that the game is more frustrating than it is fun, so we probably won't be returning to that one.
Anyway, I'll suggest another co-op/Arma session in three weeks, but as always I'll confirm soon and send around a bunch of Steam messages.

While it was nice to hang out with Henke, Jeshibu and Malf (and Dema, though since he had problems connecting it was mostly just a quick chat at the beginning), Arma was being a real dick today, to such an extent that I'm wondering if either the mods or the way they interact with the game itself have broken things.
So here's the suggestion: I strip out the AI mods and we'll give it another try - but if that doesn't work and the game remains this frustrating... well, it has had a good innings, but perhaps it's time to say goodbye.
I'll do another post soon confirming when the next (and, for Arma, possibly the last) session will be. In the meantime, thanks to everyone for hanging around when the game was doing its very best to grind us down.

Man if its possibly the last arma I will have to make it, time zones be damned!

I haven't yet put this on the Steam calendar, but here's my suggestion for a next session:

In addition, can I ask everyone to drop the following three mods from their mod list?
* CUP Terrains - CWA
* Rosche, Germany
* LAMBS_Danger.fsmThe first two are terrains that either we're not really using or that have been more likely to result in unfair situations (lots of foliage and little to mitigate this). LAMBS_Danger.fsm is the AI mod that I suspect is resulting in the hyper-aggressive enemy behaviour that we've seen recently.
I'd also suggest that we tend more towards urban warfare, because it's really the more wooded areas where the game quickly becomes stupidly unfair. I don't mind some tree cover here and there, but if it's Foliage City all the time, every time, it's no fun.
I'll put this on the Steam calendar and I'll send a message to everyone ASAP.
