Pretty accurate appraisal there Scots, except for Scotty and Chekhov  Star Trek is silly and I like it that way.

Scotty was fine, I like Pegg, but having him crack a joke EVERY SECOND HE'S ONSCREEN was a bit annoying.
As for Chekov, poor kid just looked like he was concentrating too hard on getting the words out of his mouth to actually act. Just get a fucking Russian.

From what I heard the guy IS Russian.
Scots Taffer on 12/5/2009 at 04:36
jesus christ that's funny so he is, I swear the kid looks like he's putting on an accent
okay... uuuuuh get someone who can do a convincing russian accent and CAN ACT!

It sounded like an authentic accent to me. The only thing he changed was the Vs into Ws, in keeping with Chekov style. I thought he played the part wonderfully; the kid is supposed to be 17, after all.

Given the frenzy surrounding this film, I'm kind of surprised by the relatively low number of reactions in this thread. (I know it's only been a week but I'd have thought more people would go...)

It is indeed rather good.

I'd imagine there will be exponentially less and less chatter from this movie as time progresses from its release date because it doesn't add a whole lot to Star Trek canon or leave much to talk about in any sense (except for lens flares and plot black holes), sure, it DOES a lot of stuff in its running time but it's empty, shallow, fun, sexy, hyperpaced stuff.
