The one thing that bugs me is the Michael Bay..- ee ness ? of it.
The huge fanfare at the beginning. Makes me think of transformers.
This is one movie where I wouldn't want Gregson-Williams style involved in the music. He isn't star trek.
We want Jerry Goldsmith! RIP *tear*

While the new trailer is certainly an improvement over the previous one, it doesn't do much to alleviate my concerns.
The whole time-travel aspect was tiresome enough on Enterprise, I don't see why they think they're going to have better luck with it. Then you just have the whole destiny/epic angle that they seem to be going for, which is rather trite itself. Star Trek was always more centered on proper character development and social commentary than the "shit blowing up real good" approach that they seem to be emphasizing in the trailers. Trailers, however, are almost always like that anyway.
After that, you get into the wonderful shit-storm of continuity problems that the seem to be apparent from the trailers alone: I, for one, don't really buy all the characters bonding together for an adventure so early in their careers; and why is Chekov there anyway? Then you could get into really nerd-rage topics like the transporters "swirling" instead of "speckling," which makes it seem more like the Cardassian transporters used on DS9.
I guess in summary, I'd be surprised if this is any good.

No, you'll hate it.
On the other hand, it will likely be better than Nemesis.

The new trailer was still very average to a recovering Trek nerd like myself but I will say that the music was pretty damn great.

I like that part where the chick is like "I hope you know what you're doing" and Kirk says "So do I". He really does remind me of The Shat in that moment.

The sad thing is that you're probably right.

Why in God's name are they building an interplanetary starship that is never supposed to enter atmosphere in the middle of a fucking cornfield?!?!
jtr7 on 11/3/2009 at 04:09
Ramping up the starship's superpowers? Now with 1000% more structural integrity and anti-gravity?
