You forgot "replace churches with observatories". The Sphinx and her friends probably survived, though.

is there any reason why the comic is full of born again christian symbolism.
Well the title is in a symbol of a fish that is used by born again christians to identfy themselves.

That's a Darwin Fish. Didn't you notice the little legs?

I think the whole cartoon is a pun/satire.
"Apocalypse (Greek: Ἀποκάλυψις Apokálypsis; "lifting of the veil" or "revelation") is a term applied to the disclosure to certain privileged persons of something hidden from the majority of humankind."

It's a parody of a Chick Book - those dire little tracts which warn of the perils of sin and the horrors of hell, in easy to chew comic book sized servings. Long on fear and short on compassion, they aim to stampeed the fragile minded through the Pearly Gates.
(
http://www.chick.com/reading/tracts/1060/1060_01.asp) Here's a fresh edition for your delection. At the end I love how the kid, having learned about forgiveness (from a god who has no better solution for his inadequacies than to torture his ill made creations for eternity), is rewarded anyway when his tormentor conveniently and poetically dies.
Apparently you can have your compassion and eat it too, with a hot topping of fresh revenge. Mmm... mmm... good.
Thank you to those who posted the non-animated versions.
