TAFFIN HELL!
Alright, to begin with, my sincere gratitude to anyone who helps me with this - even if your suggestion doesn't work.
When I first used the editor, it opened up fine. I used a simple tutorial and made a cube room with naught but a light and a player start position. Then I built all again and hit the joystick button. It goes to the loading screen, then DING! I hear the windows XP error noise and it crashes to the desktop if I hit enter.
I tried again, figuring it'd be an isolated incident, and the same thing happened.
So I restarted and tried to open the editor. Nope. Doesn't open anymore. I've literally tried restarting and opening it 15 times and it fails consistently. What happens is it loads up to the point where the editor window would appear on the screen, then my monitor goes black and I can't restore it without restarting.
PLEASE HELP ME! I'm on the verge of crying like a taffin taffer here.
Comp Stats:
P4 2.0 ghz
512mb SDRAM
Geforce 6600 GT 128mb
~20gb left on the hard drive
Please help a fellow taffer out. :(

I've tried previously suggested solutions such as copying all GMP files from the main game to the editor's map folder, but that didn't work either.
I've tried increasing the number of static vertexes in every instance of it in the default.ini. That didn't work either.
I've tried exporting to gmp and building and saving in multiple different sequences, but that doesn't work either.
If anyone has any clue how to fix this, please help me. I've been at it for hours, literally.

You're going to have to be more specific about what you've done, or there won't be much we can do to help. Generally speaking it's been found that mistakes in the installation cause problems.

Er... more specific.
Well I followed David's instructions for installing the editor here:

Er... I've also tried reinstalling and so on, with no luck.
I'm not sure what it is you want me to be more specific about?
It doesn't matter what I've made in the editor, be it a few cubes connected by hallways with lighting and a player start marker, or a simple cube room with a light and player start marker.
Nothing seems to work - and that's when I can even open the damned editor. Most of the time (using Dramflamloc's opening program) it just starts to load and then my monitor dies the split second the editor appears on screen. If I'm lucky, once every million restarts, I get it open, but from there, when I try to "play map!" (joystick button) it starts to load, then comes up with the Thief loader screen and I hear a DING in the background (the windows XP error report thing), but the Thief loader screen, frozen, remains. If I hit enter, it disappears and goes back to the desktop.
