Just an additional note/tactic regarding crushing the wee beasty... I figured out the dwarf meat idea (I'd noticed it was fond of the stuff before I found the power unit for the machine), but was a little inaccurate with my aim and it didn't land underneath the device. I did note, however, that there's a good few seconds between pulling the switch, and the metal crusher slamming down from the ceiling, so...

I took a deep breath and pulled the switch
1.. 2.. 3..
I ran off the ledge, landing near the creature
The creature turned and smiled
I turned and ran under the machine
The creature leapt after me with a roar
I scampered out from the shadow of the machine...
*STAMP*
...The creature didn't :)
