Responses like this puzzle me. Now I get the "bad experience with alcohol" crowd, and the "no drugs at all" crowd, and even the "no drugs that severely affect your inhibitions" crowd, but the "why the hell not" crowd really confuse me. Why not have it once in a while if you're not opposed to drug intake? Since for many, drink is an occasional pleasure that can make you feel relaxed, or can ease you into a party mood, or whatever.
I obviously can't speak for Outrider here, and I haven't
stopped drinking per se, but I can understand where he's coming from.
To me, drinking is an inherently social thing, so I never really drink when I'm on my own. Even then, it's only really when I'm with mates that I drink (as opposed to with, say, with my parents). That's not necessarily a conscious decision, it's just that when I'm not with friends I oftentimes simply cannot be bothered to drink. So the last 4 - 5 months that I'd been living back with my parents (yeah, I know, I suck :( ) it's really been a case of "why the hell not" stop drinking - even while my dad was having at least one beer with his meals.
Didn't stop me from going all out for five days in a row during the Oktoberfest last year though. ;) And things should pick up again as well now that I'm finally moving out...

One's drinking is usually affected by the hauling of vast quantities of wine back from France. A huge pile of wine boxes just sitting there waiting to be drunk. Very dangerous indeed, but at least it's cheap.
Still, if I want to actually get anything done in the evening (like laundry, cleaning the kitchen etc.) it is better to stick to one beer, or I just won't be arsed.

I tend to drink while doing cleaning, mixing nice with necessary. Some music (PaulaAbdul, KimWilde, TracyUllman) played at full volume also helps the job get done with joy. :D

Two beers after work each day, sometimes a glass of port after dinner.
Weekends a bit of scotch with mates, or fifteen glasses of wine with the internet.

Oh get out, 5 characters. Why is this feature even on, it just means people make up the character limit by complaining about it.

It used to be something in the order of 3-4 nights a week getting TANKED. Once I hit 19 I'd polish off a 700mL bottle of spirits basically every party I went to, generally over a comfortable 4 hours or so.
Now it's a bit more of 2-3 big drinking sessions spread over each 2 week period. It's a bit odd I'm replying to Scots in this fashion, as he knows how I ROLL
edit: originally thought this might be about devil drinks such as the "White Devil" - a tasty combination of metho and milk

I don't drink every week, very rarely will I do two nights in a row unless I'm on holiday.
When I do drink it's usually as follows. 4 - 10 pints of Magners (so fucking nice) 4 - 10 vodka red bull then finish off with a fat frog. Over a period of 4 - 5 hours it's not as much as it seems.

ca. 3 beers/week
+out drinkin 1-2 times/month. ca. 6 beers + 4 drinks + a few glasses of water at the end of the night. And the next morning I have a pretty good memory of what happened the night before, mild hangovers.
I haven't been out partying for over a month now tho, but next Sunday is VAPPU, I have secured a couch in Vasa and I got the go-code on "Mission: Get fucked up, midly". I MUST ASSEMBLE THE NERD SQUAD
