I picked 3 but it really is scary how many times during the week when I think to myself "I need a drink".
Rather, my 1st vice would be kicking it on the sofa after a long day at work watching the Simpsons with a funny cigarette.
I will pray with Turtz.

Indeed.
Especially since Scots fucked up the poll by assuming that anything more than a few drinks means "clinically blind/deaf/dumb/impotent/braindead" or "the world loses it's solid consistency."
Some of us can hold our liquor. ;)
That said, I'm a light drinker now, most weeks. A glass of scotch with the Sopranos, and maybe another two or three mixed drinks during the course of a week, depending on my dining patterns.
But I'll still have a good binge every month or two, though I now usually limit it to about a dozen or so drinks over the course of the evening. Wouldn't drive in that state, but otherwise, people can rarely tell I've had as much as I have.

Gandalf.
Excuse me I have erred...
Assisting Scots' research project and ignoring all distractions: what if I don't drink at all regularly (no beers in front of the TV, no pub every night/weekend/whatever, no plonk with meals, etc) but when I meet up with friends (which is once a month at best, these days) I drink like there's no tomorrow? So I rarely drink, but when I do I like to get blammo. Hmmmmm? Tell me what to say.

Call it a social science experiment.
No anonymity.
WTF! Tell me that after I vote! :grr:
What is this, a Government plot to collect and correlate personal information for Majestic 12? Well you can’t get ME you tartan clad, crypto-fashionplate. I’m protected by the very (

So, as we can see, the poll isn't diverse enough with a few people wanting options betwix others but that's kind of the whole point of this - from my point of interest anyway. Is to see if people are falling into strict categories in this shit, and then it gets even more convoluted when people want to categorise the regularity with which they do each of they above - because yes, it's possible to do the top four options in perpetuity.
Hence with the lack of anonymity and the ensuing discussion, there's something to say - well hey, I fit between these two and oh, there's the odd time I binge too!
What most people will have done, as I myself did, is categorise themselves as the option they most frequently find themselves in.
Now, I myself drink a couple of glasses a wine maybe three times a week, but most of the time I'm still in the mood for a couple more after that - so my natural state of mind with alcohol is to get a little bit more than fuzzy and relaxed, to get a little bit out of it.
That said, there are times where the two glasses of wine are enough and I don't need or want anymore. So I'd say I fall squarely between 2 and 3 myself.
The other thing that is of interest to me is the point between which the world has lost it's solid consistency and getting absolutely and utterly shitfaced with a sideorder of puking/severe hangover. For me, it's a razor thin line, but mostly I keep myself in check. I reach the stage where, after I've been sitting talking to someone for an hour or so, slugging back the drinks with regularity, when I stand up, things are a bit out of sync. Sounds are disembodied. Inertia is a little scrambled. This is the stage at which, if I'm on the ball, I'll stop drinking and have a couple of soft drinks/water and then slowly start picking up drinks again as I feel myself sobering.
However, there are those nights where the devil is in me and I just hammer back the drinks and instead of walking that tightrope between respectably hammered and ludicrously drunk, I just plunge, pissing, screaming and laughing over into the dark abyss.
The reason I brought this up in the first place was due to a discussion of "average night's drinking" at an office lunch (where I put away two glasses of wine, while the guys put away 2 bottles of beer a piece) and I was surpised that at the diversity - there was the opinion that a couple of beers and/or glasses of wine a night was the going norm, but then there were those that didn't take it all week but got utterly trashed Friday and Saturday, then there were some who just had a scotch or whatever to chill out or as a nightcap, then there were those people who didn't partake at all they weren't invited back to Friday lunch ;)).
Like Carini though, I often worry at how often I'll think "God, I'd like a glass of wine right now" and I consider whether or not my addiction (it is an addiction after all, I indulge several times a week, call it what it is) is becoming serious.
Onto replies:

Can't; literally allergic to it. But that doesn't stop me from watching while others make themselves stupid and then taking advantage of them. ;)
Funny story: I'm allergic to every kind of beer under the sun. It has a really sucky side effect beyond missing out on a world of drinks, which is that for every standard drink my mates put away, I get drunker quicker.

I don't even need to tell you what one I chose, Scots. My life is a mess.
Brother, I'm still sad I never got the chance to get properly wrecked with you. :(

I don't, at all. Just stopped drinking any alcohol at all a couple years back, for no particular reason other than "why the hell not".
Responses like this puzzle me. Now I get the "bad experience with alcohol" crowd, and the "no drugs at all" crowd, and even the "no drugs that severely affect your inhibitions" crowd, but the "why the hell not" crowd really confuse me. Why
not have it once in a while if you're not opposed to drug intake? Since for many, drink is an occasional pleasure that can make you feel relaxed, or can ease you into a party mood, or whatever.

I chose #2, but only because the only times I've been drunk, I've ended up puking my brains out for the following 2 days.

Somewhere between 1 and 2, though those times are few and far between (less than once a month, generally). Usually it's just one or two before dinner, once or twice a week.
I don't like getting blind stinking I-cant-remember-how-I-got-home wasted, so even on my occasional outings I generally keep it to around a dozen or less over an evening.
I like being in that state where you're kind of aware but perfectly willing to admit that you once had a gay dream about Brad Pitt :thumb:
(I coudn't think of a funnier celebrity, someone help me out here)
