To celebrate Dia de los Muertos!
That's right boys and girls and boys-who-want-to-be-girls and girls-who-are-halfway-to-being-boys, it's Ducky's annual Day of the Dead celebration thread, just for you, ya silly soon-to-be-stiffs! :D
First, I dedicate a small calavera to the forums (a calavera is a poem, written for the Day of the Dead but intended to humorously criticize the living, but in this case, to just have a ball with you guys ;)), mind you, I'll probably break some the rhytm and metric, but shush:
My beloved TTLG peeps
Now you've really sunk deep
The thin lady has come once more
To take you to here and nevermore
Since you were mean to n00bs
Merely treating them like dupes
Goddammit dethtoll it had to be
Now I have no spare time to pee
I hope the thin lady comes for you all
So we can have an Undead Masqued Ball!
:D
And now, for some lovely DotD pictures, tyvm:
A nice tattoo, that way you'll always carry the dead with you, eh?

http://0.tqn.com/d/mexicanfood/1/0/M/4/Pandemuerto.jpgI dedicate this altar of the Dead to the TTLG forums, may they rest in peace...or is that pieces?

******** width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/9XDnxA4LvZE?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/9XDnxA4LvZE?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>
And finally, let me just wish you again, once more, a happy Day of the Dead, but also, to leave you with this brief reflection: DotD is not just some exotic holiday to eat sugar skulls and bread of dead and make fancy altars to take pictures too. It's also a time of deep reflection and remembrance of those dearly departed, to pay respects to them and remember them, more than we usually do in our daily lives, for the one day (3 days if you really do the -whole- DotD). Cherish your loved ones that are still with you, and never forget those that have gone beyond.
Cheers :)

Unknowingly I participated then - I just went through a lot of boxes today that belonged to my mom who died last year. Even found a sort of diary from when she was young. That made me have some nice memories to her.

Ducky, would this be a good time of year to visit Mexico, hypothetically speaking? I find this Day of the Dead thing strangely fascinating and I've always wanted to visit Mexico. Perhaps this time next year.

Before I die I'm going to visit Mexico to celebrate this holiday.
edit--beat me to it!

I plan to celebrate this festival only.... AFTER.... I die :ebil:

Potato - My condolences, man, didn't knew. May she rest in peace. It's nice to remember fondly those that are no longer with us, better than to invite sorrow into our hearts. Cheers, man :)
SE - I guess it would depend which places in Mexico you'd want to go. For starters, stay away from the border towns/cities. Probably central/southern Mexico will suit your curiosity for exotic flavors :) (not that northern Mexico doesn't have'em, but....er.....we're going through a rough patch lately....). I also reccomend for you to come over from november 1st thru 3rd, if memory serves, the WHOLE she.-bang lasts around 3 days or so.
Aja - Smart move, son ;)
Fingernail - Oh, trust me. the living enjoy it more....so get your ass over here, boyo :)
¡Feliz Dia de los Muertos! :D

Wish I could be there with you but guess I'll have to send some Tagetes lucida for the dearly departed.
