I'm not a socialist, I'm a social and economic liberal, but it's really ludicrous how much baggage that term has in America. Sanders is essentially a mainstream social democrat; it's the Diet Coke of socialism, and a world away from the socialism of the Soviet Union or Cuba or Venezuela. Yet there must be a good quarter of the country who see the man as basically a communist.

It doesn't help that Sanders had taken a liking to the term in the past, and batted his eyes at leftist factions and figureheads in Central and South America, like Chavez, and the Sandinstas. Basically, he's a moderate left New Dealer who likes to portray himself as some radical iconoclast putting a thumb in the eye of American imperialism, and his rhetoric is now coming back to haunt him.

Typical "radical" (guys,
real radicals are the Machno anarchists in the '20, real radicals were Stalin's enemies! ) from the '90s.....the good old times when I was young and being @left I've NEVER trusted that "adoring" attitude.

This one's darkly funny. Disclaimer that the link is mis-characterizing the protest but as far as I can occur the event of feminists accidentally firebombing themselves actually did happen.
Quote:
A viral video shows a protestor tossing a Molotov cocktail at the president's residency — an attempt which swiftly backfired.
The firebomb ended up hitting a feminist group. At one point in the video, a feminist protestor can be seen with her pants on fire before quickly being dowsed with a fire extinguisher.
Tensions in Mexico remain high, as the country continues to go through social and economic woes. Gender-based violence is a particularly striking issue in Mexico, as an estimated 10 women are killed in the country each day. The government has been accused of inaction on the issue.
City officials did say that the majority of the protestors marched peacefully. It was the masked-petrol-bomb-throwing radicals, officials say, that turned the situation violent.
Seven people were arrested. Thirteen were taken to hospital, reports EFE news agency.
Stupid games, and stupid prizes. People who don't know what they're doing have absolutely no business trying to incite violence and will just get themselves hurt.
