It happens so often now, we might as well quit discussing it. It's all blame, no action. Welcome to the new normal.

Quote:
The shooter was a gamer who was competing in the tournament and lost, according to Steven “Steveyj” Javaruski, one of the competitors.
The shooter “targeted a few people” and shot at least five victims before killing himself, Javaruski told the Los Angeles Times in a direct message on Twitter.
No larger political motivation behind it, if Steveyj can be believed. So unless this dude was an illegal immigrant or something, this shooting will only hold people's attention for the next couple of days, probably. I guess maybe you could go for the "mental health" angle, as productive an angle as that would be.
I've been to the pizza place next door to this bar, btw. The pizza isn't really worth their prices.

Don't forget how everyone will bring up the 2nd Amendment, as if the US Constitution is some holy writ that can never be changed, even though amendments in the past have already removed previous ones (e.g. the 21st repealing Prohibition.)

Also, isn't there a whole lot of context missing from that incident? Like, didn't the coalition explicitly promise that they wouldn't raise tuition fees? Was it really just a bunch of leftists who one day heard that there is a debate on education and decided to shut it down for several minutes? Could it be that they were protesting because they felt that they were betrayed and that they were being steamrolled over by Abbott's government?
And let's talk about the consequences for a moment. That man in the video was the Minister for Education and a member of the Liberal Party, the party in power then and now. Is a protest against those in power really suppressing their speech when they have the most powerful megaphone available?

I don't know about those protests but I do know it's become that hard to not be hard pro or con anything that I don't bother engaging in discussions anymore.
This isn't the rise of extremism imho though.
It's just the rise in stupidity.
We're both more knowledgable, as a civilisation, and stupider.

Yes. And the only way out is education.

Education has been infiltrated by agendas though.
See the utter noooooooosense that happened to Mary Spellman.

That video above illustrates quite well my belief in horseshoe theory. They're advocating for a hierarchical sorting of people based upon race, color, and sexual orientation, justified by the alleged injustices said groups have suffered, and accept no point that counters their own. This isn't vastly different than what the alt-right are doing. It's almost like they're mirror images of each other.
It's like a yin and yang of perpetual stupidity. Two groups, equal and opposite, who's cause is fueled by the continued existence of the other.
