Your friend is being a dipshit. Sorry.
Now, you can have a lengthy debate about how tied together people in a committed relationship are - but what's clear is that WHEN THEY BREAK UP, THEY ARE BOTH FREE AGENTS. Your friend has NO say over who Girly dates, and has no reason to get upset about it. If he's willing to dump you as a friend over it, then, well, I guess he just isn't as good a friend as you hoped.

Be prepared to make a choice. In situations like this, it usually comes down to one.

Eh, what? If you get dumped and your best friend tells you he's fucking your ex while you're heartbroken over her you don't have any reason to be upset about it?
Not that I'm going to start to theorize about how everyone feels in this particular situation but Aero's simplstic shit is just fucked up. The friend certainly
can have a good reason for ending this relationship and I think duckman knows that and is prepared to take that risk. In short, what SD said.

Girly must have lazy parents to end up with a name like that.
You should be dating your friend aswell, that way you can try before you buy.

Thanks for your posts guys! It has really helped me put things in perspective and to calm down a lot :)

No one's mentioned it yet, so I will: if you really value the friendship, next time have the courtesy and respect to speak to your friend before the "completely in love" bit.

This is the first girl you've ever banged, isn't it?

Yeah, I was sort of thinking along the same lines.
I mean, if it's an acquaintance, then maybe not needed, but a friend? Yeah I think you should have said something.
My Bestest friend ever and I made a 'pact' when we first started to get into girlies to NEVER go out with each others Ex's - and so far we have stuck to that.
But, in your case, what's done is done, so my advice would be to now concentrate on your new GF, but maybe have a touch of empathy for your friend ... he will get over it though.

That explains why he's given her this generic moniker. I trust that subsequent versions will get nicks that set them apart from Girly: Redface, Brownsugar, Evangeline or Hardworkingsusy are just some I could think of. In any case I'd avoid confusing updates like Girly_v2.1 if I was you.

To be honest, the other guy doesn't really sound like a friend so much as an acquaintance, which puts a bit of a different spin on things.
Aero: if you're actually good friends with someone jumping in with their ex is both a poor move and a stupid one
