And on a serious note, Elba playing Roland could be interesting, but McConaughey playing Walter O'Dim/Randall Flag/The Walking Dude/The Man In Black is about as dead on casting wise as you can get.

That's got my attention. The most-of-the-book flashback in Wizard&Glass is IMO the tightest story in the Dark Tower series.

I hope they do a good job and not rework a lot of the "plastic" (as in malleable) plot. I have the whole Dark Tower series and all the related materials (such as any other book that relates to Flagg) - "From a Buick 8"... Even the Shining has elements... I had a lot of fun connecting the dots and seeing in interconnectedness of King's novels. A lot of King's work is pulp fiction for teenagers and is exceptionally long winded; however, 40 years later I still break out IT, The Stand, Christine, and others just for fun. It's sort of like watching the Wizard of Oz every year.

There was a leaked trailer trailer going around the net, before the hammer dropped and the C&D requests went out. I put a copy up here for TTLGers if you want to see it. It's really rough and not finished at all, so don't expect much. Very grainy and most of the special effects/green screens are not complete:

Edit: Hmm, the video imbed is not working, so I guess you'll have to download and watch.

Actually the trailer seemed quite good in my opinion. Thanks for the link. Yes, I had to download it. I will be a good guy now and delete it from my drive.
As for the content and apparent way the movie well present itself... when one reads a novel, one sees the characters, scenes, landscapes, etc. as images of one's own making. To have someone else do this for you after you already have an entire universe created can be an issue. This is especially true for Stephen King novels. Sometimes the movies are just too real, or worse, completely different than you imagined. I fear The Dark Tower may suffer from this for me. Maybe not.
It looks like this first installment will be a collage of books. It would be nice to see it follow the order of the books, but whatever. It's their money and effort. Hope it does well. I would like to see the whole story told.

To be as vague as possible to those who haven't read them, I've heard that the movie(s) could serve as a sequel to the books. Considering how the whole thing ends, that theory does hold some water.

It looks like they are showing a lot of back story about the kid that we did not get until much later in the books. It has been a long time since I read the first of the series, so maybe there is more backstory to it than I remember. OK, now I have to break out the books... At least reading them will keep me from posting here. ;)

Heh. Easy way to tell, actually - if it's a sequel to the books then Roland should have his horn.
Renault on 21/10/2016 at 23:41
@Pyrian - there's already been images released showing he has it.

If the last posts are true, then the series may suck worse than I feared. I hate movies that require you to know the entire “book” story ahead of time just to understand them. A movie should be able to stand alone. All those tedious hours of reading and now we start at the end with the horn in hand? That sucks. Sort of like starting Jaws with a dead shark. Yes, duh... I can see how it could work and how it is sort of clever in its own way. Screw the whole story and do it again as you wish. Sort of like the new Star Trek.
