Yes, DarkRadiant isn't relying on the actual Doom 3 engine, so it doesn't matter whether you patch the game or not. Only a few assets like light shaders and entity definitions are required.

Just to clear this up for anyone else.
Darkradiant is only the editor, Dark Mod is all the assets.
Darkradiant is free to download and can be used with Doom3.
DarkMod is not available for download.
Also Aidan, buy Doom 3...for goodness sake. Piracy isn't exactly smiled upon on this forum.

Okay, I know I've broken one of the ten commandments.
Please just listen...
I'm new and I want to use Darkradiant, but Darkmod requires the Doom 3 1.3.1 patch to be able to play, so it says in the wiki.
I have Doom 3, it's just that it's...less than legal if you know what I mean.
If I install the patch on my version it won't startup.
So, what I want to know is, does anyone have an idea or experience with loading patches successfully with a cracked Doom3?
patching cracked games is fairly easy and I doubt Doom 3 can't be just cracked again after patching.
yeah, I'm a "law breaker" myself and I'm not ashamed to admit it :) (I can make a whole list of games that I own/play and are not "original" ;) ) but I do believe this matter should be kept on low...

Not sure why anyone would need a cracked doom 3 anyway. Id removed the CD check in the latest patches anyway.

well I didn't bother patching doom 3 so I wouldn't know about that. (guess it's good news anyway:p )

I got my copy of Doom 3 for $20 a year ago, so it's not like buying a legitimate copy is going to put much of a strain on your wallet these days.

Wow, they just released Doom 3 on steam. I wonder if it can be used with the Dark Mod.
