Seems to me, IIRC, I read at the end of 2008, thats the target estimate anyway, and it will probably change.

We're trying for a beta-release by the end of 2008, though there will be lots of assets and features we'll still want to add after that. At a certain point, it will be better to release it, even if it's not totally polished, then to hold onto it for another year or two until it's "perfect".

I agree completely, especially if it's designated a Beta. People will then expect it not to be perfect and will also probably make some good suggestions and report issues.

I've noticed that some 'open source' software is initially released with a version number like 0.1 which (I think) means it's a tested build but not quite finished yet.

Thievery is up to version 1.6, talk of 1.7 still floats around. Not at all uncommon. We love guys long time once released.

It means it's the start of a project, nowhere near production quality but possibly interesting for people to play with if they don't mind loads of bugs and missing features.
Basically anything less than 1.0 means an alpha or beta release, with 1.0 considered the point at which it is ready for general usage. Unless you are Microsoft, in which case the product isn't usable until 3.0.

Okay, I know I've broken one of the ten commandments.
Please just listen...
I'm new and I want to use Darkradiant, but Darkmod requires the Doom 3 1.3.1 patch to be able to play, so it says in the wiki.
I have Doom 3, it's just that it's...less than legal if you know what I mean.
If I install the patch on my version it won't startup.
So, what I want to know is, does anyone have an idea or experience with loading patches successfully with a cracked Doom3?
If not, there is a Best of Doom 3 budget release on sale, and if I don't have any luck, I'll just buy that, because The Darkmod really is that good.
Thanks.

I'm pretty sure you can use Darkradiant without having D3 patched (you can use it without D3 at all, though you won't have any assets).
