Nice! Steady progress.
I can't wait for this to be completed. And really, once it is completed, it's just getting started! It just may prove to be more significant to the Thief community than TDS was. :)

Steady? I think they've been slacking off. They keep reporting "tweaks" but never anything really big. On top of that, the character models, not to mention world detail, seem to be getting more and more cheap. For instance the flower bed in (

My guess: the Doom 3 engine will be severely out-dated by the time any usable product is released, not to mention a complete mission-set.

I totally don't agree with you.
The improvements, IMHO, are absolutely incredible for a difficult project like this one. Of course it's not easy to re-build from scratch a cult game like Thief, and try also to improve it a lot.
I think, and I hope, that the TDM will be the best indie game tools of the year (and maybe not only of the year) when it will be avaiable.

Yes, it's a pity that game engines magically stop working once a certain time period has elapsed following their release. There was this game called "Thief" that some people used to like playing, but now they can't because the engine is "outdated".

Are you teling us that T1/2 look better?

Yes, it will. So what?
It would happen with any engine. Teams of 20 and more people work on modern games for 2-4 years, *fulltime*, *making their living*, and you want a team of fans to prepate new FM ready product in a year or two that would surpass brand new commercial games graphically?

So the lockpicking system, new AI, and working player tools aren't "big" enough for you? What specific "really big" thing do you think we should be working on at this point?
Oh wait, I get it...trolling, right?

1. It's a preview pic from a WIP beta map.
2. The screen shot is pretty old now.
3. The flower bed was a placeholder, as it actually takes something called 'time', to create a wide variety of foliage.
As for your interpretation of what constitutes 'steady progress'. We announce our progress at least once a month. The Mod is essentially two separate projects. The MAIN MOD consists of the content and coding for gameplay, and DARK RADIANT for level editing. I don't know what type of progress you're expecting, especially from folks who are working on this in their spare time, but even the simplest bit of coding can take a fair amount of time to implement. If you had the faintest clue about modding or coding, you would never have made such a ridiculous post.

Agreed NH. Cosmos, you've been here long enough to know better. I can somewhat justify your post *maybe* coming from a n00b. Quit your trolling and STFU. Your interests seem to coincide with your post. Ever heard of T2X? :P Sure you have, do you realize how long it took to finish?
Five years, and when it was released, it was well received, they used an even older engine.
If you are trying to inspire, good job. If you are trying to troll, you've done that. What you've managed to do is sound ignorant about what goes on here at TTLG, and the people that are involved. These people work their asses off for us, free of charge, we don't ask them to, they do it because they love it.
Yes, people get impatient, every mod has the *when will it be done* post. People will bitch regardless. It's people that have been around for awhile, and that should know better about what goes on around here, I have little patience for when they shoot obvious BS from their mouth, when you should indeed know better.
I for one am grateful for what they are doing, their progress has been steady, keep up the good work guys.

If that's the best you can do then please take your toys and go home. Show us your big fat famous mod effort or shush. Actually even if you had some big fat famous mod to show us you should still shush if you can't be more positive about someone else's major mod.
I for one am very grateful they are working on this and look forward to the day it is released. And sure it would be nice if it was done "yesterday" but it's a fan-effort. It's going at the speed it goes. And that's the speed it is going to go.
We'll just wait and be happy waiting.
