Why not #2? IMO it's great and kind of creepy.
"...just some early renderings of a general 'T2 Style' steam bot..." We hadn't really fleshed out things when that rendering was made. As far as I know, Oddity never finished that model. It also doesn't quite fit the style we've been going with for our Inventors, now that we have a look for them. The look of the bots in T2 were rather distinctive looking...even though they were pretty much ripped from SS2. We don't need ours to scream Karas by having the face on them. These are more practical, and feel like something a bunch of quirky inventors might hack together in their workshop.

What support is in Doom3/will be in TDM for difficulty levels?
We haven't really finalized our plans for this yet, but our intention is to support both difficulty levels (like T2) and playstyle options. Difficulty settings would be set by the mapper, and would include things like numbers of potions, number of guards and their routes, starting gold, etc. Playstyle options would be set by the player, and would include AI acuity, amount of randomness in AI behaviour, auto vs manual lockpicking, etc. It's a bit of a delicate balance between what should be under mapper control and what should be up to the player, so there are still some discussions to be had.

Fortunately, absolutely everyone agrees that the save system should be under the player's control, not the mapper's.

Except oDDity, of course.
What's the spiderbot going to be for, by the way? Illuminating areas where the player is likely to hide? Will there be one that can attack like in Thief 2?
Or is this an alternative to spiders for arachnophobiacs?

That 'spider bot' is a moving lantern basically. It now has a 'megaphone' to listen for noises. When it hears something it'll go investigate and light up the player. Not to intimidating but could put the player in a bad light if ya know what I mean.
Once it finds the player it'll probably make a bunch of noise to attract of AI that are a bit more vicious.

Nah, they're just a type of steam bot. They'll attack as well.
