This is just a strange idea I had right now: what if the vines that the arrow spreads could be set on fire? Could be used as a fuse, or a fiery carpet of death, or something... :p
Oh, and volca, I'm not 100% sure but from what they've said so far I assume that the dark engine uses a different approach. I hope it's close to DromEd's, though, because most of us are so used to it.

We're doing our best to make things as user friendly to Dark Engine users as we can...mainly this is done through our Dark Radiant and how things are presented for manipulation. We're aiming to make the editor as intuitive as our time and resources permit.

Our vine arrows do not create a hanging vine, like classic Thief vine arrows. ... They spread over the surface of a wall so the player can climb on them. We wanted to give FM authors the option of wall climbing...without silly climbing gloves. We haven't worked out exactly what rules/limits to apply to them just yet...but we might also make it so you can shoot them with a single water arrow to gain a little extra climbing height.
That's probably the coolest idea you guys have had, in my opinion. I'm really looking forward to it.
Also, just to address the "more community support in general" muttering... I'm fully aware that sometimes it seems like The Dark Mod isn't getting any respect, but I hope you guys don't honestly believe that's true. It's a fact that a couple of DM members engage in behaviour that really gets me (and Dave) pissed right off, but I don't let that affect my enthusiasm for this project. If you guys didn't have your own forums, we would already have offered you space here. If you decide you want banner space in the rotation to advertise, I'm totally cool with that. Et cetera.
Truth be told, if I was any good at coding and didn't think the Doom 3 editor was a bewildering mystery, I'd already be helping out as much as I can. Well, if I wasn't up to my titties in other things 10 hours out of the day, as well.
My point is basically that I started out a little skeptical and a lot intrigued by this project, I quickly became disabused of my skepticism and replaced it with enthusiasm, and by this point I'm just WISHING YOU'D HURRY UP AND FINISH GODDAMN BECAUSE HOLY SHIT. :grr:
I don't let the actions and attitudes of a couple of members speak for the Dark Mod as a whole. Which is a tricky bit of mental compartmentalisation, I don't mind telling you. But I do it, tricky as it is, because I know it would be stupid and unfair to tar the lot of you with that one brush.
It's just difficult when, as Dave has said in the past, it seems nearly every thread discussing TDS ends up with a certain circle-jerker howling about the uber-l33tness of the Dark Mod every paragraph begins with "WELL IN THE DARK MOD" and blar blar blar etc and arguments start and the net result is that threads get closed and people on both sides of the coin walk away with bitterness and bad vibes... And the reflection of TDM is seen through a glass stained by acrimony and arrogance for a little while. Which is totally gay, but there you have it.
In the final analysis it won't matter anyway. When it's all said and done, those of us who could be arsed to hang on to that miserable wretch of a program laughingly called Doom 3 will have a proper reason to boot it up. And we'll all sing and dance and shoot each other with water arrows and have tea and biscuits hooray! :D

Wow, GBM, thank you so much for that. I'm not sure if you realize it, but you're 'the voice' around here, and to have you say such kind things about the project really gives us a morale boost...especially around this time of year when people are so busy that progress slows down.
Some of our members can run a little hot, so I do appreciate the fact that this isn't held against the mod as a whole. Sometimes it can feel that way, but I try not to let it get in the way of the work.
We're really proud of what we have managed to pull off. When you consider how green we were in the beginning, it's actually quite surprising that things turned out as well as they have. We faced a lot of hurdles, that's for sure, but we have managed to overcome them so far.
Thanks for the generous offer of a banner. We might just take you up on that. :) We truly want it to feel like the project will eventually belong to the community.

Yes. I've nothing to add there.

Thanks for the answer. I guess the internals are shaped up by the Doom3's engine, so there are things that had to be made differently.
Anyway, I wish you good luck with th project. I would go coding for you myself, if I have not had the idea of working on openDarkEngine. I sure hope that it will grow as nicely as your's.
(I do not see any overlap in the projects, more like a complementary pair)

I don't see any real overlap either, except that we both need more coders. :)

Those would be Oddity's high-poly arrow concepts, on which our ingame low poly arrows were based.
