If that works with the dark mod... :)

It's already a working mod for Doom3 now. IIRC Sparhawk (one of the old Dark Mod devs) was crazy about 3D tech & VR, so I could see him coming back just to make sure it gets integrated into Dark Mod too.

The updated Doom 3 that supports the Oculus Rift uses a different codebase than TDM and is thus non-compatible. We don't know yet if the new source code will be released, and it is highly unlikely that TDM would ever be ported to the new codebase.

1. Yes, the code would have to be open sourced first, which we can't know now, but Carmack has a great reputation in this regard.
2. As for likelihood that TDM ports it if it does go open source... Effectively that means (like most TDM projects), likelihood that someone with competence & time takes it on as their pet project. Sparhawk really was pretty passionate about it in past posts (and all things 3D tech generally), and he's a competent coder, Ishtvan might really be into it too (they're past members, but something interesting enough might bring them back into the fold), so I could see someone taking it on as a pet project, and if something is open source it's a matter of time & patience.
So I thought in the long run it's definitely something in the cards IMO, but strictly speaking, yes, it's way too early to start putting odds on it.

Absolutely.
I'd be very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very surprised if John Carmack doesn't open up the remastered Doom 3 stuff - given his enthusiasm for the Oculus 3D goggles as a hacker/maker platform and for open source generally.
It won't necessarily be a super smooth process, it could be some months from release, - but it'll happen.
And given that Oculus is currently a box of bits and some gaffer tape (and lacks big stuff like spacial tracking ) worrying about imminent time scales would be silly right now.
But yeah - VR
Thief TDM that actually is awesome would be awesome.

darkmod does not work with BFG edition
sNeaksieGarrett on 17/10/2012 at 14:30
From what I've heard no mods will work with BFG Edition. Reason is that BFG edition uses some technology from Id Tech 5, so the mods are incompatible with the new game.

That wasn't very smart of id now was it.
