Null's good news has brought about a flurry of discussions over on our IRC channel, some of us are wondering if it'd be wise to continue working on the FM platform when we can concentrate our efforts on a Thief-ready engine.
I think the best way to approach it is to continue working on the mod, but incorporate our assets in with T3 as best we can. In other words all our textures, models, props, sounds...everything we make we'll set up so that it can be imported into the T3 SDK easily. That way it doesn't become a T3 vs. Darkmod issue, but rather a platform preference.
There are definate advantages to working with Doom 3, the main being that the engine is so malleable that you can practically implement anything you want with ease. Half of the source code is available for everyone to play with, everything regarding the (surprisingly complex) AI to the very basics of gameplay are there to tweak to your hearts content.
T3's advantage is that it's there, now, right in front of you ready to roll, immidiate Thiefy map gratification. While I doubt T3's SDK will be as open as Doom 3's (it's hard to say for certain without actually looking at the tools), it'll still be more than useable and probably blow Dromed out of the water when it comes to user friendliness.
Jay Pettitt brought up the biggest concern...is the community large enough to work on both platforms? I think it is, if we do a good job with it then I can see people using us for their missions. But I wanna get everyone elses take on the matter, what do you think? Do you see a place for both Darkmod and T3 in the community?

Of course our custom content will be available for FM authors, whichever platform. That goes without saying...

Absolutely. The T3 editing tools are a wonderful gift to the community, but at the same time it comes with the shortcomings of the T3 engine. What we have with The Dark Mod is a chance to start over with the Thief theme and try our hardest to give a tighter experience. The T3 tools haven't been absolutely confirmed, but it's definately a step closer to being released than it was.
Attempting to make our work hot swappable with T3 is alos a brilliant idea. We could easily end up with the best of both worlds. The Dark Mod is still viable, have no fear.

null has repeated the mantra that nothing is definate though. . .

If Ion Storm and Eidos have made the effort to post the news on TTLG then I'd say that the decision has been made. Null is just covering their arses incase something unforseen happens.

Yeah, but I think that's just a way to cover his ass in case something catastrophic happens. There's about a 99.9% guarentee we'll see the Thief 3 tools, if he wasn't quite so sure about it I doubt he would've have posted the news here.
I don't see work on the mod slowing down anytime soon, I've always been under the assumption that we'd see the SDK eventually (eternal optimist that I am). To me at least it only consitutes a slight change of plans, but I wanna see how everyone else will take to it with the news that's come to light.

Just because a psychologically weak someone unable to help himself guy needs a cheerleader type of speech and gets impressed with you, does not make you saint and all so right.
Aditya, if you're speaking of me, at least have the gonads to say so.
Fact #1 is, despite your fury and flames, NH handled himself in what I consider to be an admirable way. Fact #2 is, I have no problem admitting that.
Fact #3 is, you spend waaay too much time angry. Man, something sure struck a sore spot here, huh? No one really needs to say much of anything against you, for your posts do a wonderful job exposing all of you. Please, try to relax. Someone, somewhere, cares.
...and raise those standards up. They're far, faaar too low.
*cough* Sorry GBM
Ack! Still, though, there's no guarantee the T3 SDK is coming. And who knows what you guys might be able to accomplish with Dark Mod - perhaps more than Thief, actually. Rope arrows, climbing guards, and swimming, oh my!

What I think of myself is more important to me than what or how you think or perecive from my posts. Perpections vary too much to take them as FACT, so I am not bothered.

Nopes, I think my standrads are absolutely fine and I am not going to change at all. Constant referecnes over standards is meant for provoking me, so that shows your standrds. . More practically, what's going on between me and NH, is NOT your business. So stop unnecessary poking IF you can manage, that is. If you introspect OR take some guidance, it will help
To Moderators, plz also see how others behave here and provoke and say what they have to with adding a simple *sorry*. Why my reactions are only moderated??

Choochoo Choochoo...the clue train is rolling down the tracks, it should hit you shortly.
Okay, going serious for a sec. NH's original post, the one that started the ensuing flaming and whining, wasn't even aimed in your general direction. You basically took a single word out of his post and assumed he was making fun of you. How it came to that I have no idea, but it had to take some massive leaps of logic to get there, you have kind of a "you live in a house, I live in a box, therefore you are making fun of where I live when you talk about curtains in your living room" basis to your argument.

I see no point explaining to a third person all this. You are pretty free to take this in any way that you want.
