Wow, that's really, REALLY old....probably the first year of development. Check out the old mock-up health bar in the bottom corner.

If not for the water, I could believe that.

That looks pretty cool, but I feel as though they don't move around enough. They just kind of stand in one place and swing their arms around. The fact that their upper body doesn't seem to influence the lower at all looks weird.
My suggestion is: have them walk around a bit more as they fight -- this could result in cool stuff like a guy getting backed into a corner, for instance. Maybe some attacks could make the AI's opponent stumble backward. I also recall hammerites sometimes hopping briefly when carrying out an overhead swing in Thief. A few more dramatic moves like that could really improve fights, I think.

Their legs are controlled by the combat code, so AI can turn or move forward to track the player independent of the animation that is playing. When it's AI on AI fighting, however, they just move within range and then stay there. Adding some side-stepping or something might be a nice addition for the future though.

I think their animations can be made faster, right? This would be the easiest way I guess to avoid making it look like bad old Conan. I don't expect you to add a (
