Wow, here's a guy that really wants to play Dark Mod haha. I remember having dial-up back in the day and having to go through insane things like that to get something big I wanted.

Well, I hope the mod can live up to his years of yearning! :wot:

Someone should've sent this guy a pigeon laden with three 2007-era thumb drives containing the mod and fms.

The story is pretty cool, and reminds me of some of my experiences before the net and CD/DVD-writers became widespread in Hungary. Taking Calendra's Legacy home in one piece was not an easy thing to do.
Wanted to leave a comment at the guy's blog, but there is some kind of interface snafu where the send button is cut off.:erg: Hope he likes the mod.

i wonder, will somebody write about darkmod experience and darkmod reviews (mod itself reviews, not fms reviews) even after 5 years after release ? always ridiculous to read nowadays "OMG,GREAT JOB DUDES" threads on official TDM forums
also this dude write down why he didn't get darkmod in 2009 - bad internet connection
in 2009 my internet download speed was around 40kb,i've downloaded TDM in two days via torrent by leaving computer turned on for a ~7 hours each day.he ever heard about a torrents ?
i hope somebody will review TDM in 2015

1. He tried the torrents, and didn't have the time to wait so long at that point. Didja miss the part about no seeders, etc?
2. Some people need their computers everyday, to work, not just play, and letting a system sit for days is unlikely, and a lot of poor internet connections don't even stay connected for several hours straight, and the only good time to let a system run on uninterrupted is during sleep.
3. It took me over ten hours to download TDM, and that was after the second attempt where I saw that it was going to take too long for my circumstances and had to start over later when I could work that into my schedule, barring interrupted connections and other circumstances.

sorry for being rude, but this is your problem
i've also downloaded tdm in two days by leaving computer on sleep
and ? who cares ?
i'm talking about mod reviews.they are was actual when mod came out
now they are unavailing. In time when everybody can watch gameplay videos,or read existed review or play mod itself

It seemed to me that he couldn't locate the correct seeded torrents (and for some versions a torrent wasn't offered, for other torrents I thought I heard they weren't seeded). He mentions the Moddb direct download for version 1.03, it was only recently that someone pointed out that a newer copy should be provided. I'm willing to cut him some slack, particularly if Part 2-X actually talks about the mod. After all, he can write whatever the hell he wants, that's the spirit of blogging.
I would say that the reviews/popularity problem (if it does exist) is a symptom of a) not as many FMs during the initial year as today, b) the mod is continuing to evolve and improve and although it is continuously better, some have already made up their minds about it or forgotten TDM, and c) no 1.0x release is going to generate the same amount of publicity as 1.0 did unless an anomaly happens to drive a lot of traffic towards TDM.
I'm sure someone like nb or a team member can actually quantify the popularity of the mod in terms of various metrics like website hits, downloads, or whatever. I imagine it would confirm that TDM has grown steadily and slowly more popular over time. Should there be more reviews? Maybe. Have you scoured every medium for them, like YouTube, or some obscure blogs? As for the "OMG TDM IS AWSOME" praise, you might bemoan it for not being constructive or persuasive, but the volume of praise is a kind of metric of popularity, as well as a simple form of "word of mouth" that could lead to additional TDM players.
Add: There's some great news for the popularity of TDM. Tels has been working tirelessly on creating official translations and FM-specific translating capabilities, fonts, etc. If that work is mostly completed by 1.07 then you have an opportunity to diversify the fanbase and attract many more French, Italian, Spanish, German, Russian, etc. speakers.
