Last I heard, id was bought out. The rights to decide to release the source have shifted, and I've been waiting for the info that tells me Carmack hasn't lost his say in the matter for the Doom 3 source and later engines, and that he and his team get the royalties from continued sales. Sending letters is the best way to direct gratitude in the most constructive way, espeically to let them know that we have hopes for the source release; and buying a legitimate license for Doom 3 is currently the best way to run TDM, especially if we want to show respect to TDM and Broken Glass, let alone id, and related copyrights and decisions. That said, a sale is a sale and says nothing personal or specific, not even thank you, and the only reason to support Doom 3 is to support TDM, since they chose to use it for their mod, and buying the game is very personal and specific to the end-user. Take away the TDM aspect, and Doom 3 is pretty unwelcome on many a taffer's shelves, and is related to why Thief is most welcome and gets our repeat sales and letters and petitions to copyright holders and devs.

They would still be id software. Regardless of who bought the company, id is still going to make money off the sale of Doom 3.
I sent John Carmack and email a short time ago about source code release and he doesn't see any road blocks with it being released. All that was left to do was to get certain parties to sign off on a few legal things, but apparently that has always been a standard practice.
Zenimax doesn't appear to be interested in interfering with the way Id interacts with fans.
That's one thing I love about id software. Carmack will answer emails. Waiting for some of the community managers at Eidos to respond is like waiting for a long lost letter that it turns out was never sent in the first place.

Funny, i remember right about the time Quake2 was released, I emailed Carmack on a whim with some lame fanboy question, and was completely floored when he responded within 10 minutes. id has always been great with fans; I remember the days when they used to hang out on IRC and talk to fans for hours on end.
That said, I wonder what Carmack's opinion of TDM is, if he even has one.
As an aside, I noticed Shadowhide deleted his offending posts above - I love how he makes all these boasts and arrogant claims, and then turns tail and is too cowardly to back it all up. :tsktsk:

Yup, he answered me within minutes not long ago as well.
I wouldn't expect it now though, considering they're in the final stretch to get rage out.

I asked if he had heard of it, which he had, but he hadn't been able to try it at that point.
I would also say the admins probably deleted his posts. After someone has answered a post, I think users can only edit them.

Zenimax already has allowed Arkane Studios to release Arx Fatalis source, the game of 2002 year. It's a good omen, if you ask me. So I hope that sooner or later Doom 3 source will be released too.

Jesus, I've been absent from these forums for a couple of weeks, and now I'm back here to read the latest news, and the first thing I see? Shadowhide once again posting nonsense straight outta his ass. Some people do indeed deserve beating.
as for id, they do really answer. I remember I had a small conversation with Tim Willits via email back in the Doom 3 days. Kinda cool. However, now when id is behind ZeniMax marketing and PR machine, it would be a miracle if such an attitude stays the same.

Miracles happen then :)
I don't think there's been a mail that I haven't got a reply from, usually within an hour or two. Zeni/Bethesda are also quite nice with allowing freedom in this regard, it's really cool to see. As for source dates, thats about the only thing they never give an answer about :)

You need to one little thing : cut of part of your hand with saw.Yes,do it as soon as possible.
It only way to make you better. If you want, you can start with fingers.
Maybe then you will not decide who posting nonsense and deserve beating.

I haven't been keeping up with your posts Shadowhide but based on the last page and the odd post order I'm going to guess that you've been moaning about having to buy Doom 3 to play TDM.
Am I close?
