OK thanks. I'll add that to the wiki FAQ.

Well, may i say i love the effort. Have installed Doom3 and The Dark Mod last week and played some levels. To start with the good stuff, it looks great. It's very close to the original. Having said that, i have the feeling the gameplay is much harder. Maybe i am not good enough or maybe it is just that; much harder. Anyway, the way it works now, i don't enjoy the missions. Rahter play another round of the real thief stuff.
Or maybe someone can give me some clues, what i do wrong or what i should do :D

In some ways it is. You can't blackjack someone by hitting them in the foot, for example. The AI generally have better eyesight and hearing than Thief. The game was created with Thief veterans in mind, so the challenge has been ramped up a notch.
Having said that, it shouldn't be so difficult that you give up, either, and there are lots of menu options to make things easier. What specific problems are you having?

Depends on your taste, your personal preference and your comfort zone. I still love Thief, but in some ways, its too easy, years of playing I guess. TDM ups it a notch, I enjoy the challenge, with patience and perseverance you can get there too Jediron.

I find myself in the same boat. I can get through T3 on Expert and usually do T2 on Hard, but I play TDM on "Easy" and usually just end up shooting guards in the face rather than failing to blackjack them properly for the 10th time.

Haha, yeah, same here, I beat all thief games on expert, but with TDM I stick with Easy difficulty. Though I am starting to get the hang of blackjacking, I still always quicksave before that. Just recently it took me a dozen quickloads to figure out how to BJ a sitting guard! :) Anyway, the rule is: make sure you're close enough (though not close enough to bump into them), and aim at the top of their heads, or a bit above their heads. That should do.

Picking Easy difficulty only affects map issues (perhaps there are fewer guards) but it doesn't affect how easy the gameplay is. There are a few menu options that might help, however. There is a combat difficulty option, as well as a lockpicking difficulty option.
Blackjacking just takes a bit of getting used to. It's very easy to get too close, so that you're actually hitting them with your elbow instead of the sap. There's a blackjack trainer somewhere.

Well, assuming "Combat difficulty" doesn't address this, a "Blackjack difficulty" option would be great, if it made KOing someone much more lenient. Maybe not "hit them in the foot" lenient, but disable this "too close" business AND let players just hit them anywhere *near* the back of the head?
(unlike shooting arrows, I don't get any feedback where my blackjack strikes end up... I might think I'm hitting their head but I have no way of knowing if it's too low or too high or too far or too close. I just know I fail 10 times in a row and it's so frustrating I just kill guards on-sight now.)
I'll check out the blackjack trainer, but uh, if I have to play a separate mission just to learn this basic skill -- and I'm part of TDM's target audience of Thief veterans -- maybe it's an indication that it might be too hard?

Sorry for the tangent but are you still working on this Dark Mod mission Campaignjunkie?
I forgot I had a TDM forum account so I made a new one. I go by "Radiatoryang" over there and yeah, I'm making this: (
