Yeah, I just want to look where I want to look, see what's around me, without my body blocking the view, 'cause that's unrealistic AND irritating every time. What's missing from the experience as well, with having a body, is the ability for the eyeballs to rotate while the body remains still. If I turn my head to look more than ninety-degrees to one side, I should be able to look even further than that if my eyes just rotate to look out of "the corner of my eye". If the head could turn and the eyeballs, too, that would've been a major plus for the climbing glove experience, as well as moving elbows to increase the rotation even further, or to get them out of the way when looking down.

Missing from the experience, sure, but adding that seems a bit far fetched. I mean, now you're introducing more controls.:erg: The simpler the better, right?

What do you mean? first or third person? if the former, I assume you mean your foot blocking you from seeing something; if the latter, well that's what you get.
I guess though if you think body awareness looks awkward, it's probably better to not have it, even though it kinda seems weird to not see your own body at all.

I'm hoping for automation, not more controls. If the eyes are looking right at the arms and shoulders, animate them away. Hanging on a wall, the elbow on whatever side I'm trying to look down from could swing upward 45-degrees, at least. It could come off the wall, I could turn my head all the way to one side and down, resting my chin on my clavicle, my eyeballs could rotate and allow my to see 90-degrees back. In Gamall's Lair, I was up a wall with statues down below trying to get at me (like AI in the earlier titles) and I couldn't see them except for little slivers of view between my rigid body and the wall. That sucked. I exploited the fact that I could jump down and land on their heads and jump away without them reacting to the physics of such a maneuver.
I'd like to be able to take screenshots at any vantage point without something of Garrett in most of them, or having to dance maneuver the camera around and away. If leaning were corrected and forward leaning was brought back (no need for it to become exploitable)--'cause people can do that if one foot shifts and the arms move as a counter-balance--then one could look down, lean forward, and the effect will make the feet appear closer to the edge of the screen.
Looking at my world and pretending I'm the body, and I've moved out of my own way, is much more satisfying. I know the center of the screen when looking straight down, is where my center of gravity is.

Ever worn a hood and tried to look around you? :sly: Honestly, hoods are the best piece of clothing to keep you from being aware of anything. And of course they never look cool either. :erg:

You're not getting the point. 1st person with body awareness and without are two different beasts. If you're going to support full body awareness, you have to rip into the traditional first person systems and fully integrate it. For an option to work, we would have to maintain two separate player systems. Not going to happen. Body awareness is an aesthetic gimick. It's pretty to look at, but it has yet to contribute massive improvements to an already reliable system.
Look, there's is an unbelievable good engine which can be downloaded for free, has body awareness, AND has the best lightning of the year 2005. It's called "OGIER" and has been used in the game "The Chronicles of Riddick" and in "The Darkness". Now, the darkness doesn't look like Thief, but the Chronicles of Riddick does. So, why not use that engine. The lightning and AI is much better than Thief 3. Same goes for the models.
I have downloaded OGIER my self, but I'm a amateur. Maybe the people from The Dark Mod could try it out. It can be downloaded from Gamespot.com
So you have you "contribute massive improvements to an already reliable system".

And you are welcome to develop your own mod for the engine you like and the way you like, kid. 'Cause if you believe the TDM team will trash, what, four or five years of work to satisfy your particular hangup, you are in for a rude reality check.

Correct. But for Garrett, he keeps it off his face for the most part, so hearing would be the real constant concern. In TDS the whole hood turns with the head. The fact that hoods have been worn for centuries and up until today tells me one can adapt. We also don't know what kind of cloth it is, and if it's special sneaky observation Keeper fabric. A lot of fashion through the ages just embarrasses me to see on somebody. Weren't ninjas wrapped about the head?
And yeah, Tony, Broken Glass Studios are invested and committed well and good with their Doom 3 Mod.

Well, have fun and good luck on developing it on that engine. Nobody can stop you doing it. :cheeky:
There is definitely no way that TDM would switch to that engine though. :ebil:

It was just a suggestion. And I don't know how to create a game.

By analogy, it's like telling a construction company that is a few months away from completing a skyscraper, "Hey, they've come out with this really cool foundation material...you guys should totally replace the foundation for your building with it!" ;)
