I maintain that cloud cover is not the main stuff the mod is made of. Of course, it will be nice if implemented, but I could do without - while, say, a nice sword fighting system is a must.
Of course cloud cover isn't a primary concern, we never said it was. It would have been mentioned right away if we had considered it so.
To be honest though, the use of cloud cover has far more potential gameplay implications than that of a sword play system. It's a stealth game after all....and the player using the environment to his/her advantage is a driving force in this type of game. Used properly, cloud cover adds a new layer of environmental awareness while the player tries to navigate through outdoor areas. Maybe you don't see the full potential and are happy to brush it off...but it's far more than just a 'fancy' effect.
I also fail to see how anyone who has played Thief can place combat at the same level of importance as core stealth systems, considering this type of game is 'anti-combat'. The game can be played without ever taking out your sword....if you choose.
That being said, our swordplay system is looking to be a step up from Thief thus far.

Has the mantling been improved since the Alpha Demo?
Yes, there have been some tweaks.

Very easily; Thief, very wisely if I might add, provides a pricy but available alternative to stealth in the form of being able to fight your way out of a situation. So while the game
can be played without drawing a weapon (or without being seen at all), it fortunately does not
have to be played in a purely stealthy manner. That's another side of the "choice" coin - maybe not the most popular one, especially among those who prefer to be pure sneakers, but a valid and important nevertheless. (Speaking for myself, I tend to either avoid hurting AI at all, which may or may not involve ghosting, or go for an all-out offensive where guards go down in alarming numbers. And I like the last approach as well.)
I know I was irritated in Thief's Den after failing sneaking multiple times and not being able to kill a few pesky AI. :D

Yesterday that torch guy hit me through the bars of the window where you start.
About mantling; I'm asking because I tried it out yesterday to say nothing wrong and the mantling felt like pulling an invisible block up an edge. It'd surely be nicer if the movements were more subtle, but I guess that's what you've been working on.

Just a little something to share with everyone today.
Komag was inspired by some pictures of one of his favorite castles and built this proof of concept using the TDM assets and our level editor, Dark Radiant. This has all been done with brushwork and patches, no models.
The image is too big for the forum, for some reason I thought it might have the auto resize feature, but it doesn't. Click to view.

The way it's currently constructed doesn't really allow for the interior to be built, but I think it's possible to re-do certain parts to accommodate that if I ever decided to.
Anyway, I've been in love with Dark Radiant for a long time, but seeing this (somewhat) finished product just reaffirms to me how powerful this editor really is right off the shelf, so easy to work with and so capable. It didn't actually take much talent to build this, I think anyone could do it. It bodes well for the future of the Thief fan mission community!

Wow, thats really impressive! I love it. So much detail. For now, even if the interior can't be built, would make an awesome building to have in the background on an FM! :)
