Am I missing something here?
Yeah. These new films have nothing to do with the Burton etc flicks -- they're a re-imagining of the Batman story rather than continuing the old movies.

Having said that though, Batman Begins did make out that it was some other guy that killed Bruce's parents and was shot and killed after the trial, so we know the new directors aren't affraid to mess with the original story...:tsktsk:
Exsqueeze me? It was Tim Burton who dicked around with Batman's original story. Joe Chill, the killer of Wayne's parents in Batman Begins, was the same guy who killed them in the comics (albeit a different version of the same guy).

I do appologise, I never read the comics just watched the films. I also have a friend who is a
really big Batman fanatic (he actually used to dress up as him when we were at school!) so I should of checked with him before making an un-informed post.
My bad.:erm:

The Dark Knight was filming at my uni recently (uni of westminster) under Rory's Last Kiss. It was a scene in a tv studio where the mayor recieves a call from the joker. It was pretty cool having TDK filmed where you do your lectures. :)

I can't really form a coherent opinion about Dark Knight, but when I first heard a few months ago that it was coming out in the summer I squealed with joy. . till I kept reading and found out it was coming out summer of 2008. My life ended there. :(

(
http://www.whysoserious.com/) More viral marketing for The Dark Knight is released, also rumours of a teaser trailer before The Simpsons Movie.
Exciting time to be a movie fan!

<GEEK>True, but to be a bit precise, they're mostly a reinterpretation (with added/changed elements, obviously) of Batman Year One by Frank Miller. Lovely graphic novel.</GEEK>
Hmmmm...if memory serves, the Batman Year Two continuity (which I think has been partially scraped, I think) does have B's parents' killer identified as Joe Chill and in Year Two he allies briefly with him to fight the Reaper, Gotham's ex-caped crusared, before Batman came into scene.

From what fan rumblings I've discerned is that it seems to be following comics/graphic novels called The Long Halloween and Dark Victory?

I believe so. There's also apparently basing the Joker off The Killing Joke.
Mr.Duck on 27/7/2007 at 18:22
The origin story of the Joker? (which, if memory serves, is the official genesis of him, I think).
Long Halloween is perfect for the Harvey Dent setup...they should make a movie entirely about it :(. Alas, they ruined the "Roman" as a Capo di Capi for it. Oh well.
Carry on, men.
