Yeah, what's up with using villains from the comics in comic book movies?

I don't think it's as absolutely awful as he does
I don't think the movie is awful, just very overrated. (

The thing that drove me crazy about BB was the "cyclical dialog" trick used so much - characters repeating lines later in the movie to show that things have come full circle. Nolan does it so much that it's a laughable violation of believability and just seems stupid.

"cyclical dialog"
Yes. I only noticed this the second time I watched BB tho. When Batman is sitting on the roof going

I gotta agree with those who didn't like he first one (Begins that is). It was pretty good in parts and I liked the first half, but it goes pretty far south after that. There's all these dumb things that bug me, like the lady who introduces Rhas Al Ghul at the party to a very odd reaction from Bruce but she just wanders off as the creepy ninjas close in around him. The whole staging of that moment was rubbish and indicative of the way things were going at that point, culminating in cutaways to Fat Larry the water pressure expert yelling "If that surge gets here! She's gonna blow!" every three seconds just in case you forgot the stakes, kids. Probably down to Goyer's writing but Nolan clearly didn't put up much of a fight. Speaking of fight; I actually liked some of the fight scenes. The idea was obviously to make Bats a lightning quick shadow, too quick for the camera, and it works great for the first couple of appearances. But it's rather dumb when he's crashing a room full of dudes and brazenly kicking their asses. The dumbness is compounded by all the scenes where hes supposed to be sneaking around yet places himself in really obvious silhouette or perfect dramatic lighting all the time. As with the whole film, there's some good ideas and cool stuff but some of them get beaten to death, others not used very effectively.
I liked its personality though, for the most part, and wouldn't mind seeing them have another crack at it.

The first fights were good, yeah. They were confusing, sure, but intentionally so. They conveyed the sense of confusion of his first victims pretty well, but he latter ones were a bit crap. But I'd still rate Batman Begins fairly highly, certainly better than the Schumacher ones, and better than the first one as well, which was never about more than Nicholson chewing scenery and the stage design.

I seriously don't get what people love so much about Batman Begins. It has no style at all when compared to Burton's movies, and as much as I like Bale, he was pathetic as Batman with that oh so scary voice. I barely managed to sit through the movie without falling asleep.

Joker in disguise at a bank robbery
$20 says the figure in the
background is the Joker.
Also I still really don't like the look of the new Joker. Even in the second pic of the IMAX shooting, with Joker all blurred, you can still see the black eye makeup, garish red lipstick, and green hair. While those are all pretty much iconic Joker things, I am worried that this is all going a little too Cesar Romero. I've never really liked them getting too campy with the character's appearance... to me, it's just one step away from the ill-fitting spandex bodysuits, and I thought we were past that kind of thing. At least in terms of Batman.
But as long as he remains dirty and scary and terrifyingly demented, I'm in.
I still think this is my favourite look to date, though:

Am I missing something here? Didn't the Joker become the Joker, get up to mischief, and get killed in the 1st Batman film (as in the one with Michael Keating)? How can they resurect him and do a story about him if he's already dead?
Having said that though, Batman Begins did make out that it was some other guy that killed Bruce's parents and was shot and killed after the trial, so we know the new directors aren't affraid to mess with the original story...:tsktsk:
On a side note though I really enjoyed Batman Begins and thought it was a definate good step in the right direction after the completley camp farces of the previous couple (i.e the ones with Robin & Bat Girl), back to what made the original Batman film so great... its darkness and sinister undertones.
TBH I didn't even know they were making a new one but its now at the top of my "must see this year" film list! :thumb:
