- Seeing the pencil trick reminded me of The original batman, when Nicholson did the buzzer thing and just kind of set the tone early on for how fucking epic this was going to be.
- I felt like the movie dragged a little, but that's because it was like 1am and also because I wasn't expecting Two-Face to be in it. I need to see it again.
- I do think that Dent is dead. Not only because of the eulogy, but also because they used him as much as they could. The coolest parts about two-face are his transformation, which requires the joker.
- This movie gets like, bonus 4,000 points for how much it was influenced by The Killing Joke.
- This didn't hit me as hard as Begins, (I loved the entire "You can be more than just a man" thing) but it was definitely a much darker and more epic movie. Definitely interested to see what comes up in the finale.

My expectations just went -20.

Why? The Killing Joke is easily one of the finest Batman comics ever made. The joker's potential origin, mixed with a psychological battle with Batman, and the impact it had on the universe, with the paralysis of Barbara? Everything about it was fantastic.

The Killing Joke has three good Joker scenes, the rest is poorly-written garbage.
As for every nerd's movie of the year, I'm seeing it tonight!

Bah, I didn't see that much Killing Joke anyway. I saw a LOT more Long Halloween/Dark Victory. Very moody with a lot of twists, and just about some of the darkest fucking Batman stories ever written.
And yes, I want Joker's shirt.

I didn't read Long Halloween / Dark Victory, but
Joker killing Dawes felt very much like when he paralyzed Barbara and tried to get Gordon to lose his mind. Just the entire
transformation of Dent seemed similar.
[EDIT] I have no idea why I spoiler tagged that end part.

You should definitely read TLH/DV. If you haven't already you might want to get your hands on Batman: Year One stuff first- it's reasonably short and sets the stage for the other two series. It's not as good as Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns (and it reminds me just how much I hate 80s comic artwork) but it's still a fun read and better than pretty much most of Miller's other Batman work.

Miller for me is really hit or miss. I loved Sin City (comics) but the few Batman comics that I read of his were pretty garbage.
I do happen to have a DVD filled with all the Batman comics, so I should definitely get on that shit. I heard the No Man's Land saga requires my attention as well.

To make a possibly long post short: It was really good but it would have been great if they knew when to quit. It felt like 3 movies in one and by the end I had kind of lost track of all the switch backs and double crossings. I think it would have been much more solid if they would have made two movies out of it.
It didn't make a lot of sense to create and kill off two-face in the same hour (assuming he's dead, didn't really see anything to contradict that.
It felt like they tried a little to hard to be dramatic and epic, which put me off a little but I'm mostly nitpicking, it was pretty excellent, it just bugged me to realize it was nearly perfect but they intentionally added some things that made it not so.

Just out of curiousity, JediKorenchkin, what Miller Batman stuff have you read? Miller is a hack. I'm not defending him at all- he got lucky with Dark Knight Returns and Year One, as far as Batman is concerned, but his All Star Batman and Robin is utter fucking trash and Dark Knight Strikes Again is silly retarded bullshit.
