Agreed, more or less.
I'm still not entirely sold on Ledger's take on Joker. His line readings are coming off a little wrong, a little too, well,
serious, even with the silly voice. Joker's supposed to be having
fun, even if nobody else is.
Having said that, I'm still willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. I'm guessing his take on Joker will play better in context of the film as a whole.
This trailer is actually pretty terrible, all explosions and fast cars and Joker one-liners delivered sans zing--in other words, not particularly
Batman--but I'm again willing to give the film itself the benefit of the doubt since blockbuster trailers are almost always appalling.
Isnt this the idea of this reboot, to move away from the horrendous campness of Batman Forever and Batman & Robin towards something darker and more serious? I feel this works excellently with the themes of Batman.
For the record I think that Begins is the best comic book film out there (helped by me being a big fan of Nolan and Bale).

My distaste for this film is pretty well documented around these parts.
It was better than the Schumacher movies, I'll give it that.

I feel that what we will see in this movie is a Joker who has returned to his roots from the very early comics. The Joker was originally very harsh, sadistic and dangerous...making the fact that he has this huge grin on his face all the more sinister. The Nicholson Joker went into the darker side of the character, but I think the current version is going to be absolutely disturbing. The smile is just skin deep.
Batman Begins was definitely the truest Batman yet put to film. It delivered the core of the character by going back to the tone of the original comics.

I like the line I read somewhere which stated "when the Joker laughs, he should be laughing alone, anyone in the nearby vicinity should feel ill at whatever he finds amusing". For that reason, and the way Heath has played it in the trailers so far (and bank job intro now long gone, I fear), is that they want a Joker who is a fucking scary dude who is a serious criminal but also prone to moments of complete insanity... the insanity isn't there so much yet, but maybe they don't want to blow their wad.
Also totally don't understand GBM's reference to Gotham looking as it did in
Batman & Robin... I don't see any blue or purple mood lighting and big ridiculous statues? The nighttime shots look pretty ordinary city to me, which is what I like about these movies. It's insane shit happening in the real world.
Looks like a photoshop, but possibly (
http://www.aintitcool.com/node/36628) the new Two-face? Looks a bit Darkman-ish. Also, I read somewhere that apparently he does two takes for each scene as two face, then they meld them together. That's fucking awesome.

Basically how the Joker is a good 50% of the time in today's comics :).
The other 50% he tends to be a silly ass mostly when he appears outside the Batman universe.
Ah, I'll always have The Killing Joke to make me smile. :)

That's an interesting comment when you consider that neither trailer features Ledger's Joker with a huge grin on his face.

One of the main things the Dark Knight comic did for Batman was bring him back to the character that echoed the Joker's insanity. Batman was more disturbing, with an almost sadistic sense of humor in the comic. You got the sense that he saw something of himself in the Joker. I don't know if the new film plays on that at all, but god it would be great if it did.

In the Empire magazine, with Ledger on the cover, it has an article on the Joker through the ages. It states he was originally intoduced in 1940 as a "mysterious, vicious killer" but from the late 40's onward his "muderousness was toned down, and he was recast as a rather more harmless trickster type - the logic being that consistently failing to punish a psychotic murderer made Batman look a bit, well, rubbish."

I'm now almost 60% convinced that this movie is going to throw a curveball of truly epic proportions at us and reveal that the main villain is not joker but rather is dent.
Two scenarios:
1) It kicks off the lead into the 3rd movie with Joker creating 2-face to be the main villain in movie 3 "Gotham City".
2) The Dark Knight is actually about the rise and fall of Harvey Dent - with Joker being more in the background.
Either way, officially this year is the best year EVER for movies.
