I saw the movie last weekend. It was fairly good, though the last 3rd of the movie really started getting tedious for me. I never read the book, and usually avoid books and movies that are hyped a little too much. But a friend of mine works for a theater and can get us in free, so I figured what the hell. But I have to say... Over The Hedge was far more entertaining. Much more worth the price of admission. Which was about $3 in bus fare, but still.
EDIT: On second thought, why beat around the bush. The whole movie was tedious. LIke they expected you to be SO BLOWN AWAY by the main idea that they figured they didn't need to really give much thought to actually having an interesting story.

I just saw The Da Vinci Code on DVD today and I actually thought it was fairly passable fare considering as all the book had going for it was pace and the meshing of historical fact and plagairised theories. In fact, I probably enjoyed it more than the book because of my aforementioned problems with the carbon copying of plot, characters and scenes.
There were problems with it, of course, and at best it was a mediocre conspiracy thriller. Hanks was fucking mailing it in, but then Langdon wasn't much of a character to begin with so I don't think he really had a lot to work with - except that 90s fucking hairdo. Tatou was hot and sultry and french which is all she needed to be. That big fag McKellan stole the show and proves time and time again that going Shakespearan early in your acting career makes a difference.
The movie actually did a good job of establishing a sense of place and the urgency of the situation, so there was that mild thriller tension going on. The only parts that I thought were actually bad were the I SEE SYMBOLS EVERYWHERE and basically the last half hour was hamfistedly rammed home and the localities and plot-points and denouements rushed past so fast that you couldn't really give much of a shit.
My wife, who hadn't read the book, said of Tatou's character at the end: Oh so I am the descendent of Christ... see ya lata Tom, lolz.

Not sure if this was mentioned already (no way I am reading seven pages about the bloody DaVinci Code) but one thing that suprised about this film was the attempts by the Vatican to stop people from seeing it. In the end I actually felt that the film reaffirmed faith more than anything, and wasn't anywhere near as damning towards Catholocism as I expected (anti religion is totally the rage).

My feeling in the end was that the book/movie wasn't necessarily bad, just wrong (again - exacerbated by Brown's pre-story 'OMG THIS STUFF IS TRUE' baiting) and that Dan Brown is one rich motherfucker because of it.

I remember first hearing of the book when a friend of mine said he got it as a gift. He said it made "good airplane reading."

I SEE SYMBOLS EVERYWHERE
There's a pentacle in my sunburn!
I didn't mind the hyperactive symbolism so much. At least it felt like they were making some attempt to make it seem real.
(National Treasure, anyone?
Well, actually I didn't think it was that bad; but it has the feeling like it's in the middle of the story.)
I remember seeing
Focault's Pendelum years ago somewhere, but I wasn't aware Brown had eBaumed that particular book.
