I finally got a chance to see this movie on Friday night. I had to go to a 5.30 pm showing because it was sold out for the later shows. I have not read Dan Brown's book so I went in with no expectations. I have friends that have read the book that told me it was great fiction but a bit hard to keep up with.
I really enjoyed this film. I found it easy to keep up with and the pacing was good. It was interesting to see the character's different interpretations of how history unfolded. I won't give any spoilers but I felt the ending suited the movie.
For me it was time well spent.

Interpretations or misinterpretations? ;)

I guess it depends on whether or not you believe a Jewish guy would be allowed to remain single into his 30s in an era when people rarely lived past 50 ;)

Like all those Essenes, right?

There should be a bonus points system here for pedantry :p.
Apart from the fact that not all Essenes were celibate, Jesus blatantly wasn't an Essene. He wasn't teetotal, a pacifist or a vegetarian.
So if it makes you feel better, you can read my original sentence as:
"I guess it depends on whether or not you believe a non-Essene Jewish guy would be allowed to remain single into his 30s in an era when people rarely lived past 50 ;)"

If there were I'd be a MILLIONAIRE
If you don't trust Jesus not being married, why do you have faith in other accounts of what he was or wasn't?

Well, nowhere in the Bible does it specifically state that Jesus was not married.
To address your query, I see no reason to doubt the bits of the Bible that make sense (read: do not make unearthly, supernatural claims) or have a sound historical basis.

Well he did say this:
If your eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out and throw it from you It is better for you to enter life with one eye, than to have two eyes and be cast into the fiery hell. (Matthew 18:9)
