Also lemon juice and soil humus kill HIV (although lemon juice has the disadvantage of boring holes in the skin over time, making it more risky if used over a long period of time, but not so bad for a one-off -- according to NYTimes story it kills over 90% of the virus if used topically; as for soil humus, I don't know why it isn't everywhere now, since it's like 100x cheaper than AZT and just as/more effective at chemically blocking HIV from attacking T cells in lab tests; animal tests are going on now, and "hepsyl" should be on the market in about 2009). It's just a matter of which gets packaged correctly and which one gets over the strong pharmaceutical lobby which is making a pretty penny on AIDS research that maybe they aren't in such a rush to find a cure.

All that interesting stuff about microbial warfare and a new way to possibly kill HIV all you came in to do was whine about that?
Well I'm genuinely for curing all diseases, but HIV is a relatively limited and minor disease to get all excited about. Now if those frogs had a cure for lung cancer or cerebral palsy, then THAT would be something to really get excited about.
...
(...lemon juice? really?)

You HAVE to be kidding.
He's kidding, right?

The key word is "relatively". Do you know the numbers of the truly major deseases compared to aids? I care about curing aids, but I care a LOT more about curing diseases that would help a LOT more people.
Are you saying you would rather we found a cure for aids than, say, breast cancer? If so, then YOU have to be the one kidding
Fringe on 5/5/2006 at 05:25
28 million deaths is the new small, I guess.
This thread is now about shaming Komag.

You are aware that nobody levelled up and got to pick, right?

Is there something about the word "relatively" that you don't understand? Yes, 28 million is small compared to the hundreds of millions of people who have deadly cancer.
Is everyone trying to purposefully misunderstand me here?
Of course I'm happy about some frogs potentially helping the research to cure a big killer of people in the world. But it would just be much bigger news if they were curing something bigger I would be more happy

Komag, let me quote your dumb ass once more:

So, are you still saying that there's no reason to get excited that there might be a cure for HIV? You know, the disease that has killed 28 million people in fairly short period of time?
What the fuck this has to do with how many deaths have been caused by lung cancer or breast cancer, I have no idea. No one is saying we have to choose.
Maybe we'll wait until Aids kills off 50 or 100 million people. Then you can get excited.
Komag on 5/5/2006 at 06:06
I'm trying to have a good perspective. Aids killing 28 million since 1980 or so makes it a little over 1 million per year (on average) across the whole world. I'm sorry to be overly factual about it, but that's not a huge amount. Why can't anyone try to understand where I'm coming from instead of just bashing on me?
I'm not saying I don't care about those people. I'm just not excited about the news, since I'm still all to aware of the rest of the millions of people with no cure in sight. Why hate on me because I'm not excited about the same things you are?
If you really want some hardcore facts on death rates, read this article, it's very imformative: (

A million people a year equates to approximately 2 people every minute of everyday since 1980.
In the amount of time you've taken to spew "lol its not that many" onto the fourms 20 people have died.
And nearly 630 have died since the start of this thread.
Yeah, not that many indeed.
God you're so fucked in the head.
