Looks interesting, but I always hate it when trailers do the whole "HEY LOOK WHAT ELSE WE DID CUS WE'RE AWESOME" like it does at the end.
Maybe not the kind of film I'd watch in a cinema, Coen stuff seems to be the kind of thing I prefer to watch on my on without some dick eating crisps or kicking the chair behind me.

I remember I saw The Big Lebowski when it was on general release, my wife and I were two of six people in the theatre and we were the only ones laughing all the way through. It seems like a lot of people just don't get the Coens but I adore their worldview.

What's this musique concrète doing in my movie trailer?

For the record, this doesn't make any damn sense.

Being awesome
It's also interesting to see how the reputation of
The Big Lebowski has improved with age, upon release it was seen as quite the disappointment as a Fargo follow up.

How come when Coen films come up, there's rarely any love for Lady Killers or Intolerable Cruelty? I love Raising Arizona and The Big Lebowski as much as the next guy, but Lady Killers caused spleen bursting laughter at my house (Tom Hanks surprised the hell out of me too) and Intolerable Cruelty was just about the best put together dark comedy I've seen since Heathers.
In my book, these guys just can't go wrong, really - even Fargo (which IMO was a bit of a mess) was top notch story telling with characters more compelling than most directors dare to use on the big screen.

I love them both, but whenever I mention it people start scoffing as ladykillers is a take off of some other movie, so clearly its crap. I loved it, and intolerable cruelty, but those are too pedestrian for the fancy pants high-brow movie-goer types or something.

I can't say much about Intolerable Cruelty but Ladykillers is mediocre at best, the sort of film that has nothing redeeming beyond the highlights shown in the trailer.

The concept of the Coens doing a remake sounded so creatively bankrupt from the start that I barely registered interest, it doesn't help that they were trying to improve on a brilliant Ealing comedy and the it followed the critically lukewarm Intolerable Cruelty. It seemed they were on a career low at that point.
That said, I actually got around to seeing Intolerable Cruelty last year and found to be a cynical yet farcical comedy that for some reason lacked punch (and I suspect that reason might have been Clooney, but I didn't try hard to pin down what the problem was).
I am extremely happy that they're exploring their own headspace again with these loopy character flicks.
If only they'd ever return to their abandoned script for To the White Sea. :(

I know what you mean about the lack of punch. I reckon that if you were given a Coen film to watch without knowing it was a Coen bro film you'd soon realise because there is a certain gravitas that is lacking in Intolerable. The fact that Ladykillers was a remake put me off too. We still have it and I've never got around to seeing all of it.
Anything new by them makes me :)
