So yeah, apparently this hasn't been posted yet: first trailer for the upcoming Star Wars TV series (not to be confused with the similarly titled Clone Wars - why they gave them basically the same name, I have no idea) is out. (
http://www.starwars.com/video/view/000478.html)
My basic thoughts are:
1. CG...eh. I couldn't stand the hyperkinetic animation of the Cartoon Network series, and this is definitely a step up...but it all looks a bit cheap. I know they couldn't do anything on Star Wars budget scale for TV, but still, a bit of a bummer. But ultimately not too important - it's what is IN the show that counts.
2. Why the clone wars? We already know the ending - we already know what happens to all the characters. The Star Wars universe is just that, a universe, with infinite stories. I would think a Star Wars Tales sort of show would be cool, but even if they wanted a continuous plot-thread - why not have new characters? I don't want to see Anakin Skywalker continually drift to the Dark Side - we've already seen that.
3. The problem with the previous series was the almost complete lack of story. Now, some people will argue that Star Wars isn't about story, but I disagree. There are tons of big-budget blow-em-up films - it's practically all they make in science fiction films these days. Writing matters. Anyway, if the trailer is anything to go by, this series is incredibly heavy on the ridiculously exaggerated action. Bummer.
Finally, for what it's worth, Lucas isn't involved in this outside of being one of the executive producers. Some people like that, some don't.

I guess they just want to fill in a few gaps. Who knows - maybe it'll help us to see Episodes I-III in a whole new critical light :joke:
And the (

Having seen the prequels, the further Lucas is kept from his creations, the very much the better!

Personally, I preferred the rumours of an "Old Republic" style show (for either the live action or the CG) set before the prequels ala KOTOR. Anything related to the prequels has me completely disinterested, I may take a peek at it, but even that trailer just leaves me cold.

They're doing live-action? Sweet.
I actually just did a prequel marathon and actually liked them better. I still liked The Phantom Menace almost as much as I did when it came out (shocking, I know) and I liked Attack of the Clones a LOT more than when I first saw it. ROTS I liked a bit less, actually, but I won't get into that here.
I find Star Wars to be an interesting universe that works on many levels - both intellectual and visceral - when done right. When done wrong, it sucks just like everything else.
That said, from the one-third of the series I saw back in the day, Young Indiana Jones was pretty damn sweet - so Lucas has shown that, at the very least, he could do TV about 15 years ago. And having the live action in a similar gallivanting, guest-character focus could work well.
Speaking of which, are there ANY plans to release that on DVD?
On the other hand: Lucas has described the series as "bare-bones" and "action-heavy." Bare bones? What does THAT mean?

Wake me up when they announce TIE Fighter 2.

I thought the trailer looked cool, much better than the cartoon series. But yeah, I also hope for more storywriting.

Bare bones to Lucas probably means one actor and a greenscreen.

Is it just me or does it remind you of a WOW trailer?

Wow, it totally does.
