This thread isnt about current affairs or anything very important. Well, unless you think the Blues is important. And I do. :cheeky:
I want to know if you like the blues. If so, why. What blues have you heard that spoke to you? What blues kept you going? What is your favorite style, subgenre, or era?
List some of your favorites. The less well known the better. Im always looking to hear some good blues I havent heard before.
For myself, I have to say the Old School guys, the lone singer/guitar player, the jug band, old Library Of Congress field recordings. The nitty gritty blues. The voice of joe average raised in a song sung blue. Eerie songs about love, loss, god, frustration, poverty, and joy.
I also love the later electrified blues. The screaming guitars, wailing harmonicas blasting through over worked tube amps. If you ever heard Big Walter Hortons rendition of Back Home To Mama and Heard Hearted Woman, you know what I mean. Or Cant Call Her Sugar, by Muddy Waters. The insistent overdriven guitar line that tries to pick you up and get your feet moving.
So tell me, what do the blues mean to you?

My blues listening, sadly, is pretty much restricted to the Cowboy Bebop soundtracks.

I love the Robert Johnson recordings. Blues, like a lot of traditional / folk music as a body of work is extremely repetitive and similar because of the formula it adheres to. We live in a post-Beatles world where anything is possible.
Anyway, I love the stark, powerful quality of the RJ recordings.

Muddy Waters and Robert Johnson are great.
And then of course there's that band that practically embodies the Blues. It says so in their name 'Blues Traveler'. They also have a sweaty fat guy which is money in the bank for a blues band.

I like Blues Traveler, but I have to admit to a huge soft spot for old acoustic "Delta" blues a la Rob't Johnson, though I don't sneer at the modern attempts at the same.

I like Blues Traveler...
Blues Traveler got me through my first year of living on my own. My neighbour actually threatened to kill my cat if she had to listen to "hook" one more time.
