I half expected that the mission
wont be as easy as it seemed at the start so I completely ignored the small castle and went straight for the old castle.Quote Posted by dovahkinia
Edit: okay, turns out I missed the entire section, this mission is huge :cheeky:
I'm not sure there is a way into the
small castle before the large one, at least that I could find.
There was enough loot that I didn't really need to go to it once the Hard objectives were complete, but I wanted to :sly:
Is there something vital there on Expert?
yet again I'm amazed by the variety of new AI models, skins, animations, voice lines, etc

Is the amulet in the same tower as the boss mage that we spoke to?
Edit: nvm

this was one of my two favorite missions in the whole campaign and i wish it just ended here....
ffs, its a whole medieval castle to fully explore! in games that have castles theyre either small or your blocked off from large chucnks for sake of gameplay... but here you it is fullsized and you get to explore every nook and cranny of the whole thing from top to bottom... kinda like i said about my other favorite mission in that thread, this mission was kinda like a longtime thief fan's dream come true...

This was one of my fav levels in TBP.
I think there is some readable in the library that mentions that one guard has gone missing, possibly due to picking up the wrong stack of scrolls. I wanted to ask if someone knows if their is any follow-up to that readable? Can you find the missing guard somewhere?
What I didn't like was, that when you're finished looting the big castle, you more or less have to loot the small castle due to the loot requirement. That feels kinda anti-climatic tbh, after looting the big castle with all it's tight patrols and many mages, to go back to knocking out normal guards. I think in general TBP sometimes has the flaw that the main objective is finished in relativly short time and that because of the extra objectives and the loot requirment you spend an extra hour within the maps. I always think it's more satisfying to have the main objective be the one thing you work towards and finish last, and the extra objectives + loot requirement to be the things you accomplish by just snooping around. (But you can definitly disagree with that sentiment, after all it's more playtime...)

Can you find the missing guard somewhere?my interpretation was,
cause i think there was some mention of polymorphing or something like that, that the missing guard had been transformed into the Ettin in the basement lab.

I loved this mission but I had one small gripe with it - I one-tapped the creature in the basement lab with a gas arrow. All that hype and he died to a fart. Felt kinda bad afterwards cause you guys had clearly planned a tense hide and seek area a la Death's Dominion. I've heard that you can do the same to the giant spider in JoD too. I'm not sure if this is patchable, not very tech savvy myself, but I think it'd be worth patching if so.

Oh, that would make sense, thanks for the answer :)
For some reason I assumed he got stuck in some secret compartment in the library. Actually spent about 10 minutes looking for a book to pull hehe. Come to think of it TBP seldom uses the whole shtick of having a secret door opened by pulling a book.

If I read the title deed correctly,
both castles are owned by the same person so it wouldn't really matter.I went back to find all of the loot, and I'm about 300 short of max loot.

I encountered a similar problem with this mission as the one RippedPhreak decribed and WEI semi-confirmed (
https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=152438&p=2509243&viewfull=1#post2509243) here. Once I talked to Iarodo, the
door leading from a balcony to his area became locked, and an archer with the "old castle master key" should have entered Iarodo's quarters after a short time. But once when I played it, I did not find this archer once the commotion died down. Loading a quicksave into DromEd showed he was instead not even on the balcony before the locked door, but before the other door of this balcony, in a sitting room. It was hardly possible to lure him into Iarodo's quarters by banging the blackjack on the locked door, and after all the trouble, he even killed me right on the spot... When I loaded a save from right before I talked to Iarodo and did that again, I noticed no problem this time. On two other playthroughs, I never encountered this problem at all.
It could be advisable for the player to save the game just before talking to Iarodo, and only overwrite this savegame once the player has
obtained the old castle master key. Otherwise, the player might become imprisoned in Iarodo's quarters, breaking the mission. If there's an update to TBP some time, maybe there should be
another copy of the old castle master key somewhere in Iarodo's quarters. After all, why should the big boss of the whole mage compound not even have a key for his own quarters?

I finished The Black Parade last week and have been gathering my thoughts. Arcane Sanctum (Diablo 2 reference methinks...) is IMO the best Thief mission ever. Like it was so great. I am giving myself time off so I don't burn myself out but that is the mission I am looking forward to playing the most on my next playthrough.
My favorite part:
I let loose the monster locked in the lab on a ton of guards and the douchebag head mage who wouldn't talk to me. He killed like 7 NPCs, then out in the garden the guard with a metal helmet finally killed him
I made it to the end of the mission then doubling back to the start to leave I found the master key in the guard shack.........doh.......I didn't even know that guard shack was there
