@Dave54: we are troubleshooting at the moment. Did you happen to kill something during the first mission?
Not that I remember. Or that I even risked I don't think. I did kill the spider in the tunnel at the beginning of level 2.
Played and finished level 3 OK, (after something of a search for the book!) now playing level 4.

@Dave: there is a small spider in Cattermole's attic, maybe you killed that one?

I may have a problem. I'm playing on Expert. I have the bloody key, which I used on one of vault locks to check it worked - it did. Then I found my way into the "undermansion" via the rope, eventually found the 'key found deep underground' and was amused by the treasure chests. But when I climb back up the rope, I seem to emerge back into the "undermansion" again, so I can't find the vault. I seem to be stuck in a loop. Am I doing something wrong or am I suffering from brain fade?!

@Marbrien: There are two ways out of the "undermansion":
- Climb up the well and onto the broken staircase, you will emerge in the inner garden with the tree that has lanterns on it.
- Continue down the path with water on both sides and climb up, you will eventually emerge in a circular room with a deep hole and roots on the ceiling. Keep going this way until you reach the heart of the manor.
Generally the easiest way to get to the vault is to stay as high as you can within the manor and head west.

Yes, thanks, I've found the vault now. My problem was I thought I was reemerging into the undermansion architecture, but I wasn't. Must be fatigue!

I think this mission is absolutely brilliant, but it does become more and more of a challenge as you progress. It's probably too late for a lot of people at this point, but on a first playthrough I'd recommend people
not play this on the same night they finished the first mission. I think fatigue can affect one's appreciation of it.
But I really do think it's brilliant. I could be wrong, but it felt to me like that Schlock/Squada combo that gave us Into The Odd and Alcazar played a significant role in its design. It boggles my mind how anyone can design spaces like this and
not completely lose track of what they're doing.

Don't think I killed anything apart from the big spider in the tunnel at the start of this level.
I haven't tried it in this FM, but killing people is usually an instant fail isn't it?
Sorry not to reply earlier. I've been having trouble signing in. Finger trouble on my part though!

This missing is amazing, a true maze but an absolute pleasure to get lost in.

There's definitely some element of fatigue at play if you're coming hot off mission 1, I'd made the mistake of playing it immediately after and it did affect my enjoyment somewhat. That said I've come to appreciate this mission a lot more the second time, not sure if it's because I actually took a break between missions this time or because I now actually know my way around from the previous playthrough.
I'm currently trying to scrape the last bits of loot from this mission, there's a readable in the little sewer bit between the canal and the apartment with the dead noble that mentions a gold ring, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. Is it a red herring or am I just looking in the wrong places? Rings are devious little things.

aw, I'm playing on Hard and was hoping the Expert objective might tick off as a bonus if I completed it :(
this is a masterpiece level, I can't imaging planning it all out! as I get further down into the depths I need to take breaks more frequently to keep from getting overwhelmed :wot:
