wtf.. control, seriously ? xD
I swear you are breaking my poor mind...
How about respect for others work ?
But right, shame them for making sure you wouldn't play a broken game trying to use a mod that was never intended for it, making sure that everything looks and works the way it should..this is so insane.
And do I really need to mention consent ? Because it actually apply a lot with "mods of mods"as you put it, people usually ensure og creators consent before releasing a mod, if they are decent human being..because..you know, respect for others work.
I mean I am not even a big fan of low res textures and low poly characters myself...but making such a weird rant about it.."get a life" yourself seriously.
And even if that's not my thing, I can still appreciate how well crafted the visuals are (and the reasoning behind it), the aesthetic, ambiance, and it has so much more to bring than just that even..shame you can't see it on your "fancy" screen..
Yeah, you're just not going to get this.
Building on the work of others IS the ultimate respect.
It's like complaining about Pokemon rom hacks as though they don't make the experience far more enjoyable.
HD Mod is like a good rom hack.
Maybe if you create something unique yourself some day, you'll gain a better understanding.
I made it perfectly clear that I was criticizing the desperate bid for control, not the work itself.
Aside from the "I am Batman" voice acting, I can't think of a single bad thing to say about the campaign.
Even the bad textures are inherent to the game itself, it's not their fault the game came out in 1999.

Are you for real ?
I swear I am trying hard, but I can't take any of this seriously xD
You clearly have no clue what you are talking about, but thanks for the laughs.
Your "desperate bid for control" is simply people valuing their work, their time and effort spent creating something, and wanting people to see it as close as possible to what they meant it to be, "if you create something unique yourself some day" you'd know what it's like, and you would respect that and not attempt to "build" your work on top of others without their consent, because, I assure you, you'd know exactly what it's like.
And no.. really no no no, "Building on the work of others" is only "ultimate respect" if you had any respect for the og creators and their work to begin with.
Seriously have you met many moding communities ? And I don't mean one or two, I mean LOTS, they all have that thing in common : when you base your mod on someone else's, you reach to them, you ask them if they are fine with that (unless they already said it's fine..sometimes you ask them anyway). Those who don't are simply trashed.
We are not talking free software or rom hacking here but passion projects... But you just have no clue clearly.
And I'd add that you just don't care, you just want an HDmod for the campaign, because nothing you said made any sense, you just made up your arguments, you're just frustrated. You don't value others work, you just value what you want. You wouldn't be so callous otherwise.
And that's why I was laughing all along.
Edit : Or you were just trolling from the beginning, in wich case well done. (the last sentence really cracked me up, seriously "bad textures" omg xD )

Again this is all just like your opinion man.
The only thing we can really agree on is that I don't value the Dark Engine these days unless heavily graphically altered with high res textures/specular maps, and a heap of ambient lighting shaders.
The campaign is fantastic, but it would also have been fantastic in the Dark Mod, had it been available to them/up to the task at the time.
The Dark Mod has really come a long way over the last decade and a half, I can foresee a lot of the community moving away from the Dark Engine for fan projects.

wtf? The Dark Mod is a completely different game with totally different game mechanics. TBP is a homage to Thief TDP so why on earth would the authors want to spend another 5 years rebuilding this campaign with a completely different engine. Might as well suggest they mod the campaign over onto Half-Life, S.T.A.L.K.E.R and Minecraft.
If this campaign was ported over to Minecraft I for one would check it out.

Wrong again. TDM is 15 years old and hasn't yet produced more missions in a year than thief has. (
https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=152494) Thief FM stats 2023. It probably will do one day but Thief is not going anywhere.
Anyway in honour of this hugely entertaining thread I'm going to re-install HD mod and play a couple of missions (with my shades on of course) to remind myself of what an atrocity it really is.
Edit: Yeah HD mod is great.

While TDM is different game core mechanicsa are very similar to these from Thief. That's why TDM missions are sometimes announced on this forum and they are also included in Thief FM stats you linked.
I think you should look more carefully at these stats. In 2019 TDM created more missions than Thief 1 and Thief 2 combined. It already happened.

Well yeah, that I can understand, I totally get the want anyone would have for more modern visuals (even if it goes against the art direction, ambiance, and the intended homage that come with it). Especially since Thief has quite a unique vibe.

I am sure it could be fantastic, I mean some of the creators have made TDM fms in the past (if not all of them, sorry I'm not entirely sure :p). But I'm not sure it would have been as technically feasable to make (each engine has its own limitations and problems, depending on what you want to achieve or prioritise, it can make less sense to use one instead of the other for so much reasons I could hardly list them all), so not that simple and it also heavily depends on the creators itent, not sure it would go with the homage and og vibes and feel this campaign has brought.
TDM is really awesome, but it's not entirely like Thief, some would even argue it's its own thing entirely. So I don't think it would work with this particular campaign.

TDM is quite old now, I am sure it was available, I never forgot when I first saw mention of The Black Parade in some hidden book on the third Penny Dreadfull TDM fm (although I don't remember when it came out).

True, but it's not exaclty Thief, things don't exactly behave or work the same, so as I said before, it depends on what you wanna make. Not sure more people would go for TDM, but why not, but I doubt New Dark would fall out of favour however.

Lol, sounds like you're just super angry and not reading things through to form a coherent response?
I said TDM has come a long way in a decade and a half, (roughly 15 years for the illiterate :p) and I foresee alot of people moving to TDM for future projects.
Not sure how I could make that any clearer. I was willing to give you the benefit of the doubt, but I guess someone else already debunked your claim, so it seems TDM is even more popular than I thought.
