There is more behind the Big Donor Show then what all the international media outlets are talking about. The founder of the BNN television network, Bart de Graaf, actually died some years ago due to his ill health caused by his kidney. He was never able to find a matching kidney and this is one of the reasons why the staff of BNN wanted to produce this TV show so as to bring the donor situation to the attention of the general public.

It's (
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6714063.stm) a fake to highlight the shortage of donors.
Quote:
A Dutch TV contest which purported to show a dying woman choose a patient to receive her kidneys was a hoax.
The "donor" in the show was in fact an actress - though the three people vying for an organ were real patients in need of a kidney transplant.
The three knew that The Big Donor Show, which aired on Friday, was not real. The producers say it was made to highlight the shortage of Dutch donors.
I did think it was a bit sick, even for the insane reality TV, and as it turns out it was.
