Warning, Massive spoilers follow. Do not read the following unless you've found and gotten the contents of that stash in Yantar in Clear Sky... okay, so maybe the spoilers aren't that massive.
Clear Sky: Yantar
"The best cache in the Zone belongs to me. It's a safe on the factory premises."
The factory is the building which was the entrance to the Yantar lab in Shadow of Chernobyl, it is a building with many floors. Naturally this complicates stash finding. Further difficulties include a hard to reach roof and ground floor, plus massive psi emissions and electro anomalies on all floors close to the stash. With two moonlights and a kolobok, health loss is minimal but you do have to deal with crazy psi-fuck vision.
Search each floor individually looking for each stash, avoiding electro anomalies, climbing over debris to get to the roof and going around and through a window to get to the room on the ground floor.
The roof appears clear of anything resembling a stash but check over ledges and around the place just in case.
Each floor inside has a radiator around where the stash should be. Check each one thoroughly to ensure that it is not the stash.
The basement lacks a room where the stash should be so it can be ruled out.
The ground floor has a table about where the stash should be, check it thoroughly to make sure it is not the stash.
The next floor has a metal object that looks like it is the stash. Check it thoroughly several times but to no avail.
The next floor has a window frame where the stash should be, check it thoroughly for the stash. Find nothing.
Check the roof again.
Check for secret doors/hidden rooms in the basement.
Go around and check the ground floor again.
Go empty another, easy to find stash.
Come back, check each floor again.
Several times.
Go back to that metal object exactly where the stash should be. Search it, even more thoroughly than the seventeen times before that.
Find nothing.
Check everything several more times.
Check the stash description again: 'a safe'.
Decide that the big metal object must be a safe but it is upside down and thus can't be searched.
Hack at it with a knife to see if it will move.
Unload ten or twelve shotgun shells into it to see if it will move.
Throw several grenades at it to see if it will move.
Try to search it a few more times.
Go around, through the window to the ground floor and try and search it through the ceiling.
Spend a while jumping off different things to get as high as possible while mashing the search button and looking at the ceiling.
Run out of energy drinks.
Enable crosshairs and try to search it normally again.
Eventually discover, that a tiny segment of one of the bottom corners of the safe can be searched...
FOR ONE FUCKING RPG ROCKET. YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE AN RPG AND IF YOU DID YOU PROBABLY WOULDN'T USE IT.
Wonder how the developers at GSC could play such a cruel sick joke on you and any number of other unsuspecting stalker fans.
Weigh up the pros and cons of not getting another stalker game vs the bittersweet taste of revenge...

:weird:
Thanks for the warning.

When I encountered this stash I kinda figured it was a cruel joke on the part of the devs. It drove me nuts looking at the safe trying to find the spot to search. At least I know what's in there now.

I'm pretty far into the original game now, and I swear of the 30 or so odd caches I've explored, not a single one has contained anything useful, and most contain nothing at all. I think I found a few grenades once; that's it.
Koki on 11/12/2008 at 07:50
Well you have to admit, it's best stash in the Zone. He never mentioned the contents.

Stashes are bugged without appropriate mods. Zone Reclamation mod as well as "bardak's bug fix attempt" mod fix the stashes. Firstly, no lost contents (empty stashes) anymore; secondly, player can obtain each stash's mark and contents only once per game (no repetitive stashes anymore).
There is a number of stashes that contain useful items like rare/costly armor and high-grade artifacts.

Don't forget the bug which makes all the bodies "reset" once you leave the map and you can search them for stashes again once you come back.
Incidentally, AMK has none of these fixes. You wouldn't believe how abuseable "Random, rare" stash mode is.
GRRRR on 11/12/2008 at 13:02
Normal Random aint better, because Random Rare at least has the advantage that the Stash info "drop rate" is very low. With normal random you get so many that the "one sausage" vs "ridiculous treasure motherlode" favors heavily into the latter very fast. But i agree, both are very destructive to balance. If only those "Custom Exoskeleton + FN200 + 2 Elder Glassbeads" stashes would only occur very far into Red Forest or something :erg:
AMK 1.4.1 apparently has adjustments to that but la de da, russian only.

Zone Reclamation or bardak's patch fixes that too.

In Clear Sky it seems like there are a lot more difficult to get to stashes than in SoC. Only problem is, it also seems like contents of stashes is generally pretty crap now. Aside from stashes with flash drives and, in the swamps, the stashes with medical supplies or guns you don't have yet (it's usually just a toz or sawn-off), there are pretty much no stashes that you're happy to have found. The only exception for me would be a stash in agropom with a top condition abakan which was an absolute godsend when raiding the duty base after I ran out of my thousand or so 5.56 rounds, but at any other time it would have been crap. It's even more of a pain when you pay a few thousand for a stash to find that all it contains is a beretta and an mp5.
