Is anyone going to go pick up the new Mars Volta album on the 29th? The back story for this one is fairly origional, based around a story obtained by the band using a Ouija board last year, which apparently cursed them. Check out the story in more detail in this (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bedlam_in_Goliath#2008_club_tour) wikipedia entry. Although I was suspect as to how the new album would work minus Jon Thomas, the drummer who was (in my opinion) the real star of the band who quit the band last year. But from what I have heard of the songs on this new album (check their myspace) this is going to a fucking epic release.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to this one and will pick it up on Tuesday. I enjoyed Amputechture, although popular opinion seems to indicate I was one of the few. As much as I admire their fearless prog aesthetic, I do think they need to reign it in a bit to reverse their current downward slide into fanboy-only territory.
Agreed about John Theodore, that guy was a machine. Still, a more straightforward drummer might take them in interesting new directions.

I grabbed this album off the (internet) about a week or two (believe me I'd buy it if I could but i'm so broke)- and hm,
First of all Theodore is sorely missed IMO. The new drummer is certainly way capable, but he's very precise, lots of double kick-drums. It begins to sound like Dillinger Escape Plan at some points.
Second: This one is way more intense than the previous if not all albums. It's got a Cut That City pace throughout the
whole album. That's fine by me because I can't fucking stand the BALLADS that littered Amputechture (there's only one to be found on this album and boy is it a stinker).

A (
http://www.dustedmagazine.com/reviews/4067) review I read this morning said it best: "This nonsense has gone on long enough. Mars Volta, it's time to shit or get off the prog-rock pot."
All in all I liked it better than the last, but there's not too much promise left in it. "Wax Simulcra" is a really rad song but I can imagine people not wanting to spread the word on this song because it's called WAX SIMULCRA and it has lyrics like "If you could see where I've been you'd touch the hand that's touching sin" huhughugh. Oh there's also a song that reminds me of Megaman boss battles.

c'mon, seriously how can you even say this shit? Well, this steak is nice, but fuck me if there is too much garlic
also its been a bad night, but for fucks sake - doesnt a Gmajor triad over a C bass equal Cmaj9th, it does
of fucking course it does, and if you dont understand that then you have no right to be analysing music in any kind of fashion than the pure "aethestic" quality of it. I like that band cause they have cool hair? Yeh that the shit i am talking about. So in the end fucking I am off my tits but my statement still stands godammit
