In the Golden Age of afternoon cartoons, Inspector Gadget, Thundercats, M.A.S.K. and GI Joe ruled. You couldn't have found a pig-tailed Japanimated big-headed little girl with an annoying theme song on TV if your life depended on it. Yu-Go-Fuck-Youself-Ami and all that bullshit.
Inspector Gadget had a million cool tools and gadgets that often got him to the scene of the crime (or whatever) but he was very clumsy and usually inadvertently caught the bad guy or foiled the plot by the mis-use or malfunction of said gadgets. Often the problems were solved by Penny and her dog Brain, but Gadget got the credit. He is the epitome of luck winning out over skill.
You've never heard the song? "Dun-dun-dun-dun-dunt-Inspector Gadget! Dun-dun-dun-dun-dun-dunt-duuuunnnnnn!"
What cartoons are they babysitting you kids with in school these days? :rolleyes:

IMO I would have to say the Golden Age of cartoons goes back to the old Warner Bros. I am of the Pokemon generation, my first introduction to anime. But now for those idle afternoons it is:
