Giles - EL MONARCH ESPAINIA. Well, he did ok really. Decent batting, decent - if unspectacular and unthreatening - bowling (but hardly the worst offender there). I really want Monty to have a go, but it's not like Giles did anything worthy of being dropped .. and I can't see us playing two spinners unless any of the pitches demand it. Sooo .. probably Gilo to get the nod again next time.
That's why it's GOT to be Monty next time. Giles averages 20 with the bat, Monty 10. 20 extra runs across two innings means yeah he's a better batsman but it's not worth sacrificing the wicket taking potential. You can make up 20 runs easily by actually being able to take wickets - in the 2nd innings the Aussies made 200 odd runs and the only man they lost was a run-out. We're going to have to take 20 wickets to stand a chance and this attack isn't going to do that.
Word is that Adelaide spins a lot so we might have room to take the both of them - probably means Anderson has to go, which would be a shame. The problem we've got is that we're just going to have to keep bowling Harmison and desperately hoping he remembers how to aim at the stumps because frankly we've not got any other option.

If Harmison falls to peices in this second test, I wouldn't put it past anyone to drop him and bring in someone who can hack the pace. My opinions mirror what Paz said as far as individual performances although I would have liked to have seen Mahmood in place of Anderson.
I mean, if you're gonna lose, at least give the young buck some decent experience.
ENGLAND 4, AUSTRAILIA 1
So pumped about tonight

Promising stuff by England. I'd hope they can bat for most of tomorrow and leave a decent total to bowl at. Something over 500 would be nice, but I guess it depends if they're playing for the draw yet or not!
Edgebaston 2005 lives!

Hm, it's a slow pitch and Australia are on the defence - 500 is an unrealisitc target. I can see what they're trying to do, let us get whatever total we like and then beat us on sheer batting prowess.

At least it's a contest at the moment

welp,
there i go underestimating my team again
Myoldnamebroke on 3/12/2006 at 02:21
I bet Monty would have taken that catch!
Jakeyboy on 3/12/2006 at 13:20
Hmm, it looks like its tending towards a draw at the moment. Unless we bowl them out by about lunch tomorrow I don't see much hope for a win, but if we can and then bat on the remaining sessions, maybe leave them 1/2 hour at the end of the day, leave them a target of 400 - 450. Much better than the first attempt though!

Oh crippling psychological flaws, which English sports teams WON'T you destroy?

Or not. The only good thing about the last two results is that they reaffirm England's achievement in winning the Ashes last time round. No one can say 'they only won because Warne and McGrath are old and past it' now that they're crushing England again over a year down the line.

Tim Henman. But only because he doesn't count as a team ;)
