Wow, I hadn't noticed the price. $30 is steep indeed.
Played through MedSci so far and reached Engineering. I guess that for those of us who are very used to the game this isn't exactly very exciting, it was business as usual. Some of the old tricks are no longer available, but since I played so often with and without exploiting them it really doesn't make much of a difference. I'm still just annoyed that I can't map keys for turning left/right and honestly, I still prefer the visuals of my old modded SS2, but it may be a matter of habit. I'm hoping that MP works well in this new version.

Been playing multiplayer with a friend, got all the way to the end of OPS before having our first crash. Unfortunately, it appears that if a player disconnects it also changes the multiplayer game from (X) players to 1 player. The easy fix is to go into the save files and edit the .json file, which defines the number of players allowed in the game. The joining player then had to delete their temporary save cache and re-download from the host (took like 5 seconds). Worked, however their character was completely lost, and they were spawned in as a clone of the host. So his cybermodule build is gone, but his items were saved as a backpack on the floor. Surprisingly cheats still work in multiplayer, so I can just give him the modules he needs to rebuild himself. It is a hassle to have to do all that though, so I hope it gets fixed.
Other than that single incident, I've had no multiplayer difficulties. We were able to transition between bulkheads without problems, which was our biggest issue with the original game. Crashed almost every time. Worth the price to me.

I played for about an hour last night on my Steam Deck. Having not played SS2 in a few years I'd forgotten a bunch of stuff and ended up setting off a security camera.

One noticeable difference to me: pellet shots for the shotgun are actually useful. I never noticed a considerable difference in the original, but in the remake they are quite effective against soft targets - spiders, especially.

How's the inventory interface with the controller?

Tedious. They haven’t done anything special for the Deck. I was hoping to use the trackpads or the touchscreen to manage the inventory, but instead we’ve just got to D-pad around like a normal controller.
I’ve not messed around with the deck’s custom input mapping yet, so there might be some hope, I guess.

Damn it, Soma Transfer no longer works on the brain of the many, saving me the trouble of shooting the stars. That was always my main motivation for getting it.
But it was cool to see all enemies dying as soon as a killed the brain.

I was recently informed by a developer that the soft lock condition I found was because the SS2 AE mod is tied to the SCP mod. It is clearly a bug that Nightdive lets you disable SCP and leave AE active, but I put some of the blame for this situation on SCP itself.

SCP has now become the game. SS2 is dead. Long live SS2:AE.

It is now.

That wasn't a bug.

It wasn't a bug, but it was changed and now it no longer works. Unfortunately.
