the 'right' way to 'deal with' anna is to give her the wine, give her some pillow talk, and then make sweet sweet love.

It's much more interesting to talk with Lebedev all you can and then let Anna kill him. The speech that Manderley gives you back at HQ is one of my favourites in the game.

Last time I did something a little interesting, but unfortunately I can't really remember if it gives the scenario you're hoping for. Usually, I kill Anna by placing a LAM right by the bathroom door, or flaming her if I have a 'thrower. Well anyway, one time I placed the LAM a little too far back in the bathroom, and it was just the right amount of splash damage to injure her to the point where she'd run away like a little schoolgirl.
I THINK if you do this before Lebedev's had a chance to run through his entire speech (just the one which triggers her entrance, that you can get the rest out of him when she runs away. But if Anna's alive when you leave the plane, then she will kill him and seemingly forget about your attack of her. Anyway, you get the mission semi complete while Manderley chews you out for not finishing it yourself.

If this can really be done, then it is a win wni situation (provided you kill Lebedev after his speech). You get to hear the entire speech and yet everyone at UNATCO thinks you did your job perfectly.

Question- when do/can you fight Anna last then? Let's say you let her win in the subway. She gloats at you in the MJ12 prison, then leaves.
Since [if you kill her in the subway] Herman threatens you when you exit the HQ, I take it she otherwise confronts you somewhere in the UNACTO HQ [the first retica scan room perhaps]. Is it possible to get out without killing her? I sort of feel sorry for Gunther, his character is so wonderfully cynical. *g*
Oh, one more [which will probably tag me as a n00b. Hey, not my fault I usually frequent SS1/SS2 forums ;]- in the DE2 interview, it was said that the developers had a tough choice deciding if Paul was alive or dead, since that was up to the player in DE1.
How the HELL do you save Paul? I've played as everything, NFS helper, UNATCO grunt, double-agent, every single time he dies. :erg:

Anna faces you again on the exit above Manderley's office (when you walk up the stairs). I heard it's possible to make her flee through the doors there, so you don't have to kill her (kill her, and you get the key from Alex), but I don't know if the game recognizes it...
And about Paul, you can save him if you fight with him, and not leave through the window, but the main doors of the 'ton. The same if you get taken down inside. Just DON'T leave through the window in any case.

Yeah that is right. Navarre or any of the soldiers can try to retreat or to move to a better position. If they chose to position themselves at a vantage point beyond the door, they will unlock it and you can leave without killing them. The game does recognise this as evident later in this speech by Hermann.
Navarre alive:
You are a small, prowling mouse. And dumb like a mouse. You keep coming, even though you know it is a trap.
Navarre dead:
You are a small, prowling mouse. And dumb like a mouse. You keep coming, like you forget about Agent Navarre. I remember Agent Navarre. I remember for everyone.

Just DON'T leave through the window in any case. Argh! But I always fight with him! I fight with him, I kill most of the troops, then when we both get to the entrance/exit of the `Ton, he says "stop wasting time/you go ahead" and casually strolls around the lobby. If I move away and come back [or if he gets out of sight in the hotel] he disappears, but if I'm there, he just strolls around. I exit the `Ton and the result is always the same. Paul, dead in the MJ12 med section. :nono:

...I also finally discovered why everyone said "don't use the MP patch unless you have problems". This is the first time I sent the NSF signal [game unpatched for once]... And not only got the goal completed with skill points, I could also save right afterwards.
The blasted patch just left a few things up on the Goals&Notes page `till the end of the game [never got the skill points for them either], plus when I sent the signal, that "NSF distress signal sent" message stayed on screen `till the next level load stop. I had to finish the entire soldier-filled tower without saving [and was playing on Realistic that time too].
Although at the time, I thought it was just a very clever adrenaline-pumping idea. :p
