Ah yes, fusing a robot worker chassis with software that routinely hallucinates responses and isn't capable of actual meaning-based reasoning isn't a bad idea at all. Beyond the smoke and mirrors, this is probably just a narrow set of limited tasks that it can execute that the engineers are showcasing, and that's probably for the best. The most impressive part of this is the manual dexterity on display. I wonder what the safeguards are - will it pick up someone's head and put it in the wash too if asked?

I still remember all the hype with virtual reality in the middle 90s.
Repeat with AI hype.

Right. Figure 1 is an actor in a video. There's no way to know how much training was focused on the specific tasks and commands demonstrated in this video, or whether any of its demonstrated skills are really general purpose. Some or a lot of it could be scripted.

I still see a lot of you thinking AI is just hype and meaningless at its core. Let's see where we're at in 10 years :p
And don't forget, it's the same smoke and mirrors that can now generate ultrarealistic videos

I don't think AI is hype or meaningless. There is a real AI revolution underway in software and the future of software engineering will be more about training systems than explicitly programming them. But I think most public attention has been on the novelty uses. In 10 years, I still expect androids to be in demos and not in homes and workplaces.

No, we're just approaching it with an evaluative mindset and some knowledge about how these 'AI' models (spoiler:
not AI) work deep down. There are definite uses for what we're seeing here as automation tools, and it is going to be part of workflows everywhere whether we like it or not, but this stuff you're posting is not nearly as developed or ready as the swish marketing makes it appear to be to the layman.
