Everyone is entitled to an opinion. Why should he be denied the freedom to express his opinion?

Because he's [going to be] the monarch and monarch is an apolitical role.

So what? So by becoming the monarch you suddenly have your freedom of speech taken away? Look, I understand that you expect the monarch to be responsible with regards to what they say but you'd expect that of anyone, especially if they are in a privileged position. Deny him freedom of speech is a bit... odd.

The monarch doesn't get absolute freedom of speech. They are required to be neutral and non-partisan. That's the way it is under constitutional monarchy. We elect politicians to be partisan and political. The monarch is a non-political constitutional backstop that only steps in when there is a dire need. It's one of the ways in which we protect our democracy. The monarch isn't allowed to vote or stand for election either (nor are peers of the realm).

I don't expect him to make any political speeches of course, but I'm talking about, for example, his views on the environment. Its not really a political issue, is it? It becomes political when politicians try to use it to their own ends but in itself its not a political issue, like taxes and so on.

She "encourages" people to join the armed forces only, which in any state with decent separation of civil and military authority is an entirely apolitical act.
And then she blesses them upon their triumphant return for doing the will of the Church of England. I don’t view her as a glowing ball of neutrality; she has a political agenda be it the wars, or sexy causes like global warming (e.g. telling 53 nations in Trinidad and Tobago to unite at Copenhagen), or stirring up enthusiasm for the Commonwealth.
