...That's it? The iPad. - by Fafhrd

Seriiously,
(http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/27/apple-ipad-event-video-now-online/) that's it? It's literally a scaled up iPod Touch/iPhone, with a better processor. Why?
You open your presentation talking about how you're going to introduce something that blows netbooks away, and then reveal a product with less capabilities than a netbook (and quite a few smartphones)? Who do you think you're kidding? No multitasking, no cameras, no flash in the browser, 1024x768 screen. Sure, the price is low. If you only need 16gb of storage, and don't go for the 3G model, but a netbook is cheaper, can multitask, most have cameras, and their web browsers do flash.
iBooks? $400 for an analog page turning animation in an e-reader?
I don't get it. Are TTLG's Applerati disillusioned by this at all? Anyone else watch the presentation/read the announcement and go 'Whut?'

This thing may be a huge hit but I'm just not seeing it right now. It's too unwieldy to excel as a portable gaming device. The back-lit screen will be too hard on the eyes to make it comparable with any e-ink reader. Its lack of a real keyboard (in a portable sense) means it won't compete with netbooks when it comes to anything that requires much typing (like e-mail and word processing programs). Its limited flash memory size means it won't work very well as a media device. As for any function that would necessitate 3G network access, wouldn't the compact portability of an iphone be desired?
You can surf the web from the couch, yeah, but netbooks do that with better specs for half the price. I give props to Apple as the thing is sexy and priced well, but it ultimately strikes me as a toy in search of a market.

If reading long texts on it is as comfortable as they claim it is then I absolutely have use for this.
edit: watched the presentation, once again Apple shows they are the most annoying company in the world, I love my macbook but they can go to hell with their guru-bullshit.
probably old but very funny (

It's a cartoonishly oversized iPhone.
I'm sure it'll find a market.

If that's what you want, buy a reader with an e-ink display. Anything else will be inferior.

:p I Want it! I Want it! I Want it! :p When is it coming to Canada?

Yes! I will have a Star Trek workpad in no time.

The iPhone is nice simply because you get something with so functionality in such a small package. Take the exact same thing and supersize it, and you're left with something with considerably less appeal. Too big to be useful for the same things the iPhone is well regarded for, and too restricted to be competitive against even the simplest netbooks.
Consider me disappointed. I was hoping for a sleek tablet MacBook with a fully functional version of OSX. Not this stupid thing.

I'll look into that, thanks for the tip.
