That new bow... - by Hewer

Could the more complex bow be a nod to making rope arrows, or grapple arrows which would be even heavier, more believable? The complex bow looks to me like it could shoot a heavier, unwieldy arrow like a rope arrow without too much difficulty unlike Garrett's original bow.

Perhaps. Of course the original rope arrow didn't carry the weight of rope with it, and it didn't need any special consideration beyond the target material and a clear space below it's striking point for the rope to "spool" down. Since a grapple implies hooking around something, not into something, it's safe to presume the number of locations for use will be extremely limited and more game-y without some major fudging of realism. There's no way to make it realistic as used, only a little bit closer. If the number of places it can be used per square meter of gamespace is the same as in the older titles, I'll be impressed and relieved, especially if it doesn't require that world's magic or alchemy, which Thief seems to be getting away from.

No it's not.

Why does using or not using magic matter? The rope and vine arrows in T1 and 2 must have used magic.

Vine arrows certainly, but for rope arrows we have no indication that they're more magical than Garrett's miraculous inventory. Which is a gameplay-based stretch, of course, but IMHO not related to ingame magic. [nerdyness ahead] The pre-TDS interview with Garrett aka Terri Brosius explicitly stated that he is not aware of any Keeper magic to use in his job.

Well seeing as we pick at everything else - if you think about how a rope arrow works it pretty much has to be magic.
Unless it was like a Dark Mod rope arrow.

That DarkMod rope arrow would need magic to penetrate wood in the first place. :p

A simple mechanical steampunk-ish bow is far more acceptable to me than a prosthetic mechanical and removable eye camera that is functionally tied to the same optic nerves as a regular eye. I can believe the Hammers could make that bow. That eye is stretching it, even in the Thief world.
I think the same.
Honestly i can't find any valid criticism to the new bow.
And rather i begin to like it.
The problems, if there will be any, are other things.
The major of my fears is the 3rd person view and the movements of the player and the camera.
Personally i consider the 3rd person view a serious mistake, but the time will confirm or not my suspicions.

Define 'valid'.
